Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missed the majority of the 2019 season after suffering a season-ending elbow injury, and while he is still progressing through training camp, he is a top candidate to win Comeback Player of the Year in 2020. Roethlisberger (+400) is right behind Alex Smith (+450) as the frontrunners to win the award while New England's Cam Newton (+450) is in the conversation as well.
It was not long ago Roethlisberger put up career high numbers in 2018 in passing yards (5,129), pass completions (452) and attempts (675), as well as passing touchdowns (34) while playing in all 16 games for the first time since 2014. Roethlisberger still goes overlooked as one of the league's great quarterbacks with younger players and bigger names being the talk of the town, but Roethlisberger can still sling it like the best of them.
Roethlisberger has drawn rave reviews from his pass catchers Vance McDonald and JuJu Smith-Schuster this training camp and believe he is "all the way back, for sure" according to McDonald in a recent media conference. Luckily for Roethlisberger, he will likely not need to attempt anywhere near as many passes as Pittsburgh's defense has improved tremendously as he was rehabbing his throwing elbow last season.
With a stout defense and a potentially potent offense, the Steelers could be back in the playoff picture with their hopeful CPOY quarterback leading the way.
