Steelers Legendary QB1 Terry Bradshaw Strongly Disagrees with HC Mike Tomlin’s Quarterback Choices

Former Pittsburgh Steelers legendary quarterback, Terry Bradshaw is one of the most outspoken voices in franchise history. Whether he’s doing a pregame analysis for FOX, or even commenting on his experiences at his local grocery store, Bradshaw isn’t afraid to give his bold takes. Friday was no different as the 4x Super Bowl champion took to The Herd with Colin Cowherd to discuss the ongoing debate in the Steel City: Mitch Trubisky or Kenny Pickett?

On the show, Bradshaw made it clear that he understands why head coach, Mike Tomlin went with the veteran, Trubisky to start the season, but he would’ve made a different call:

“Listen. I’ve thought about this before I came out here, yesterday flying out. I understand what Mike’s doing. They signed Trubisky to be their starter. Now, they may have wanted Pickett. There’s no guarantees they were gonna get him. Everybody was saying, they were going to draft him, right? It was just like the good Lord looked down on them and said, ‘I’m saving him. I’m saving him for ya.’ And they got him. I think what Mike did is, he [Trubisky] didn’t do anything to lose the job. But I would remind everyone, it’s preseason. There’s not that much going on.”

“And I think Mike is honoring their commitment to bring him [Trubisky] in, knowing that the real starter is the kid. I will say this. I would’ve started Pickett. Because I’ve already seen the other guys. I know they can play well one week or two weeks, and then we’re going to see the other side. I would’ve started the kid, and I wouldn’t have had to make any excuses for it.”

Bradshaw went on to speak very highly of the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft:

“He’s exciting. The players love him. The fans love him. And he’s 20-what? 4? He’s 24 years old, started 54 games in college. He’s so ready to play that I would’ve started him. But I understand, as I told you, why they didn’t [start him].”

This has been a hot topic among Steeler Nation, as well as the rest of the NFL community as both quarterbacks have impressed throughout the off-season and preseason. Former future Hall of Fame quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger also shared on his YouTube channel recently that he would roll with Trubisky. Only time will tell what the right decision is as this regular season gets underway for the black and gold on Sunday in Cincinnati.
