Over the next three days, the Pittsburgh Steelers have 10 draft picks. These picks, plus the addition of any undrafted free agents, mean by this time next week, there will be an abundance of new Steelers players. Over the next couple of months, the fans will do their part in learning the players names, backgrounds and genetic make up, while the players will be doing their part in learning the playbook and culture of the Steelers. But tonight, and over the next couple of days, let’s welcome the new additions to Steeler Nation, and teach them what it means to be a Steeler.

Being a Steeler is unlike being apart of any other team in the National Football League. When walking into the team facility, one of the first things you see is the six Super Bowl trophies. Those aren’t there to help remember the past, they are there to show what’s expected. Steeler fans are a special breed. While we have our bad eggs, a good portion of Steeler Nation is smart, and rational fans of the game. And we only care about one thing: Winning. Sundays aren’t relaxing days for us. They’re days filled with anxiousness, worrying and panic. We live and die with this team and the players. For most fans, watching the Steelers isn’t a hobby. It’s a passion.

Unlike some fan bases, we are always going to be there cheering you on, especially on the bad days. While we have our portion of angry fans, just know Steeler Nation will always have your back. We understand that you go to war for the city of Pittsburgh, and the city will go to war for you. You will always have a home in Pittsburgh. No matter what happens down the road, Pittsburgh always has open arms to former players. Just don’t burn any bridges.

As long as you put forth your best effort, the city is going to love you. This town was built by hard workers, and they love when someone puts in 100% for the city. Don’t be afraid to become part of the town, either. Go to some Penguins or Pirates games and see what the city of Pittsburgh is all about. We bleed black and gold, because to us, they are more than just colors. They represent Pittsburgh, and the people in it.

Welcome to Steeler Nation, the biggest family on Earth.
