Already this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been able to cut about $15M off their salary cap. That included the retirement of long-time Steelers offensive guard, Ramon Foster, and the releases of linebackers Anthony Chickillo and Mark Barron, and wide receiver Johnny Holton.

In come the team reinforcements to help Pittsburgh get to the NFL's salary cap limit to just under $200M by 4PM EST tomorrow, 3/18. Veterans such as quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, and cornerback, Steven Nelson, have both agreed to restructure their contracts. This comes a day after kicker, Chris Boswell, cornerback, Joe Haden, and tight end, Vance McDonald did the same. This should give the Steelers almost $40M in cap space moving forward.

In other news, the Steelers will be losing inside linebacker, Tyler Matakevich to a 2-year deal to the Buffalo Bills worth up to $9M. They will also be placing inside linebacker, Ryan Shazier on the Reserve/Retired List.

"Ryan's placement on the Reserve/Retired List serves as a matter of protocol to ensure his continued inclusion within our organization moving forward in his professional career," said Steelers General Manager/Vice President Kevin Colbert. - Steelers.com
