The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off an ugly 24-19 win over the Dallas Cowboys that left a lot to be desired. This was not a dominating win by any means which has started to raise some questions with fans. Those concerns are now out the window with the recent COVID-19 news that saw Vance McDonald test positive, and players Ben Roethlisberger, Jaylen Samuels, Jerald Hawkins, and Vince Williams land on the COVID list.
Head Coach Mike Tomlin opened his press conference as normal discussing their current injuries. Mike Hilton, Derek Watt, and Tyson Alualu all have a chance to play this week. McDonald will be out this week since he tested positive for COVID-19. As long as the daily tests come back negative for the other four players, they will be available to return on Saturday. While Tomlin discussed Williams and Roethlisberger being good to go and play on Sunday due to their veteran status, Samuels and Hawkins were not given the same assurance. Roethlisberger's multiple knee injuries were asked about but Tomlin stated they shouldn't be a concern for his availability. In regards to who will get the quarterback work during the week, Tomlin stated both Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs will get work with Rudolph handling the bulk of it. Tomlin said all meetings team wide will be held virtually this week to help contain the exposure to the virus. Workouts and rehab for players will be on a rotational schedule to limit exposure as well.
Tomlin immediately dove into the Cincinnati Bengals leader Joe Burrow who he has been really impressed with. He stated he can make every throw, has underrated mobility, and is a fluid decision maker. Burrow has plenty of weapons, specifically Tyler Boyd, who Tomlin went into great detail about. This should come as no surprise since Boyd was a neighbor of the Steelers while attending the University of Pittsburgh. In regards to Cincinnati's defense, Tomlin highlighted Carl Lawson's rush ability and how he's able to squeeze the pocket. Tomlin even spoke about former Bengals defensive lineman saying, "We do not miss Carlos Dunlap".
