Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Open To Coaching Staff/Defensive Personnel Changes After Brutal Week 5 Blowout Loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered the organization's worst loss since 1989 as the team fell 38-3 at the hands of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon. It was never much of a game and all three phases of the game hurt Mike Tomlin's squad throughout the blowout defeat. Josh Allen threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns as he torched the Steelers' secondary. Offensively, Kenny Pickett seem poised and collected, but the play calls were once again questionable and the offense was unable to get in the end zone. Tomlin was less than pleased in his postgame press conference.

Tomlin was very feisty with the media after the contest which can be expected after the performance his team put out on the field. There were four separate times when he used three simple words to describe the game as a whole.

"We got smashed."

Many Steelers' fans have consistently been calling for Tomlin to relieve offensive coordinator, Matt Canada of his duties and the head coach did not rule out changes to his coaching staff when asked about considering adjusting responsibilities.

"I think everyone understands where we are and what transpired today and that it's not cool. You can draw whatever conclusions you want to draw from it. That's just the realities of our business at this level."

Tomlin was also asked about the defensive group. The unit let a 10-point lead slip away last week against the New York Jets and although they went up against the AFC's best offense, there was a lack of effort on Sunday.

"Absolutely, man. You play like we played today, you got to be open to do whatever is required to change the outcomes of these games so that's a given. I don't think anyone is going to be surprised by our willingness to turnover whatever stone to change the outcome of games like transpired today. That's just appropriate."

As far as the offense goes, letting go of Canada would most likely lead to quarterback's coach, Mike Sullivan being promoted. Sullivan has one year of play calling experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 and he was in charge of the NFL's worst ranked offense that season. Despite an unsuccessful stint in Tampa, Sullivan would have a very difficult time calling just as bad of a game that the second-year offensive coordinator has this season.

Defensively, Tomlin's comments may have insinuated that we will finally get to see Mark Robinson get a jersey next week. The rookie has not been on the game day roster once this year. Both Robert Spillane and Devin Bush had rough games and weren't very productive. At 1-4, the Steelers need to figure out what they have in the rookie seventh round pick. It is hard to believe that he would be that much worse in the middle of the field.

We should know a little bit more on Monday morning about what changes are made, if any. But, it sure seems as if Tomlin already has a couple moves on his mind after the disgraceful effort that was shown on Sunday afternoon.
