Steelers QB1 Mitch Trubisky Attributes Teammates, Coaches For Smooth, Easy Transition To Pittsburgh

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Mitch Trubisky was officially announced as the team's starting quarterback. That just reassured the common belief throughout training camp, as Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph never seemed to have much of a chance. That stood especially true as Trubisky continued to evolve and improve in his new offense as camp and the preseason wore on.

Additionally, the former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills quarterback has established himself within the team. With the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh's offense had a leadership void that suddenly needed to be filled. Trubisky and star running back, Najee Harris have taken over the reins in that aspect, as both were named team captains on Monday. With Steelers beat writer Teresa Varley, Trubisky discussed just what has led to his quick transition to his new team:

"I think it's just the people here. I think their love for football and just how much they care about winning. Those are two things that I think are characteristics of me," Trubisky said via Varley's article on Steelers.com. "I just love football. I care about winning and I care about this team. I think coming in here was just a seamless transition for me."

After the Steelers selected Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, many thought that meant bad news for Trubisky. It seemed to only make the veteran better, as he stepped up his game throughout training camp. While it still seems destined that Pickett will start at some point this season, Trubisky has already exceeded expectations since signing his two-year, $14 million deal in March.

Things weren't always easy at the beginning for Trubisky. At the beginning of training camp, he struggled adjusting to life with his new set of wide receivers and tight ends, especially having to also face one of the better defenses in the league in practice. Fans began to worry about the prospects of the team's offense this upcoming season.

As camp evolved and we got closer to the regular season, he only got better. Now, there's optimism for the offense to take a step forward in 2022. Those early struggles will only pay dividends in the long run for him and the rest of the offense. The first test is this upcoming Sunday, as the black and gold have an AFC North matchup to begin the season. Facing the reigning runner-up will be a good test for just how far Trubisky has come, and the offense will need his leadership on the road this weekend.
