Steelers' Matt Canada Has The Audacity To Respond To Latest Criticism By Saying "Offense Was Good Enough To Win" Following Week 2 Matchup

On Monday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to secure their first regular season victory of the year. The defense would secure a pick-six by linebacker Alex Highsmith on the first play of the game, as well as a fumble recovery by counterpart TJ Watt for the game-winning touchdown. During the game, a very audible "Fire Canada" chant rang through the stadium, following another horrible offensive display. On Thursday, Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada finally responded to the latest criticism.

Before Steelers team practice on Thursday, Canada took questions from the media. Canada was asked how it felt to hear the "Fire Canada" chant from his own fans, and if the offense could bounce back on Sunday when they face off against the Las Vegas Raiders. Canada responded by reassuring he is in fact still in charge of the offense and that he's going nowhere.

"I have great belief in where we're at, and what we're doing, I'm in charge of the offense."

As baffled as you might be that Canada believes the offense is in a good spot, it's going to get worse. Canada would then go on to say how he believes the offense did well enough to win the game.

'"Defense did a great job, special teams did a great job, offense did a good enough job on certain plays to get a win. It's way more fun to sit and talk to you with a win than a loss when you don't have a good performance, and we expect to have a better performance this week."

Yes, you read that correctly, Canada truly believes the offense did well enough to secure a Steelers win on Monday. While Canada's statement is half true, it's almost laughable if he truly believes no changes need to be made in order to take the offense to the next level. The same offense that was outscored by their own defense on Monday, and an offense that is dead last in almost every offensive statistic in 2023.

Steelers Offense Continues To Struggle

Following the win on the defense's back on Monday, many fans are calling for Canada to be fired, and rightfully so. We're now two weeks into the 2023 NFL season and the Steelers rank: 32nd in points, 31st in total yards, and 32nd in time of possession. The Steelers are statistically the worst ranked offense in the NFL so far, leading many fans to question what drastically changed from the preseason. The offense looks nothing like the one which we saw in August, one that scored over 20 points in each game.

For some reason, the offense seems to have lost their "flare," and Canada isn't the only one catching the heat for it. Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is coming off of a great tail end of his rookie season, has looked nothing as advertised so far in 2023. Steelers fans and NFL analysts believed Pickett would take a huge leap in 2023, but so far Pickett has done nothing but under-perform to begin the 2023 season. Through two games, Pickett has a total of 454 passing yards, a league low QBR of 18.8, and has thrown more interceptions (3) than touchdowns (2).

Steelers fans should be concerned with the direction Pickett is going in so far in 2023. We've seen Pickett play at a high-level before, almost leading the Steelers to a crazy playoff berth during his rookie season. Now Pickett looks as if he never has played in the NFL before, almost lost when going through reads, and even forcing the ball into double coverage at times. But Steelers fans should remember not to put the blame solely on the second-year quarterback Pickett, as we know he is still a raw talent.

So, who is to blame? Well so far, it's been a complete offensive breakdown by the Steelers. With the offensive line play being horrid, play-calling being terrible, quarterback being innaccuate, and the running game not being present; the whole offense needs to be revisited before it's too late. Don't be shocked to see Canada stick around for the entirety of the 2023 NFL season, as it seems everyone in the front office believes the offense will in fact turn it around. From a fan's standpoint, Steeler Nation can do nothing but hope the offense does take a leap this year, or else it will be a long season.

What does Steeler Nation believe? Is Canada the root problem of this horrid offense? Will Canada have a job with the Steelers all year? Or will he be on the hot seat for the Steelers matchup against the Raiders? Leave your thoughts down below in the comments.
