Former Steelers backup quarterback, Charlie Batch, who had been vocal in his excitement when Pittsburgh drafted Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, found himself reflecting on the turn of events. Initially filled with hope and optimism, Batch, like many others, had envisioned a bright future for the young quarterback. Mike Tomlin was adamant that the Steelers draft Pickett and was all in on him. Unfortunately, the anticipated success never materialized, and with the trade to the Eagles, the chapter of Pickett's career in Pittsburgh officially came to a close.

Batch took to the airwaves on Monday morning, joining the Randy Baumann and the DVE Morning Show to discuss Pickett's departure and his future prospects in Philadelphia. Despite the setback, Batch maintained a steadfast belief in Pickett's abilities. He emphasized the potential for a fresh start and renewed success in his new football home. Batch isn't willing to give up on Pickett.
"Absolutely do think he's a starting quarterback and I've watched him in a lot of the throws the last couple years throughout training camp, and he can make those throws. Unfortunately, he was paired with arguably the worst coordinator in the history of the National Football League, and when you pair that together, this is what we're reacting on."
During his two seasons in Pittsburgh, Pickett thrived under pressure, showing consistent late-game success. He led six fourth-quarter comebacks and seven game-winning drives, an inspiring, yet worrisome trend. Pickett always showed up when it mattered most, a trait that excited Tomlin.
However, he struggled to build leads and post impressive stats, throwing just 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his two seasons with the team. Despite dealing with a historically bad offensive coordinator in Matt Canada, Pickett showcased potential - notably against the Cincinnati Bengals after Canada's departure. Injuries also plagued Pickett however, raising concerns. In fact, the injury during the game against the Arizona Cardinals is responsible for ending Pickett's tenure in Pittsburgh.
Returning from injury, Pickett faced stiff competition from an in-form Mason Rudolph, who finished the season as the starter. This set the stage for an intriguing offseason. The Steelers' signing of Russell Wilson further complicated matters, leading to Pickett's trade request, which was granted.
Pickett expressed confidence in his handling of the situation, but now finds himself as a backup with the Eagles. Batch remains steadfast in his belief in Pickett's starting quarterback potential. Love him or hate him, Steelers fans will closely follow Pickett's career, dissecting every move he makes for years to come. The fan stalking of Pickett is likely to happen until his retirement.

Last season, the Steelers' quarterback room consisted of Mitch Trubisky, Pickett, and Rudolph, all considered average. Now, Omar Khan has made significant moves, including bringing in Wilson, a Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowl veteran, eager to reclaim his elite status at 35 years old after two disappointing seasons with the Denver Broncos.

Khan didn't stop there, however; the day after trading Pickett, he orchestrated another deal with the Chicago Bears, acquiring their talented, but raw quarterback Justin Fields for just a conditional sixth-round pick. The plan is clear: Wilson starts, and Fields could be the future. The dynamic between Wilson and Fields will be intriguing to watch.
Wilson is enthusiastic about the revamped quarterback room, while Fields sees Pittsburgh as a preferred destination. This offseason, the future looks brighter in the Steel City than it did this time last year.
