The Pittsburgh Steelers have not been a stranger in 2024 to trade rumors. The majority of the talks have surrounded the wide receiver position, as it seems like only George Pickens can truly be relied on to step up on a consistent basis. This was expected to be the reality throughout the summer, but General Manager Omar Khan hasn't been able to execute a trade to bring in a reliable second option for the offense's quarterbacks. The trade deadline is roughly a week away and many expect the front office to be active, but it could absolutely come much sooner than November 5th.

Pittsburgh will take on the New York Giants for a Monday Night Football matchup then has an advantage entering the bye week. Khan and co. will have much more time on their hands to look into and inquire about certain trade candidates. The most intriguing part of it all is that the Steelers could have a new wide receiver on the team by the end of the day Tuesday - the first day of the bye.
Most trades in-season throughout the NFL occur on either a Monday or Tuesday. This is standard practice based on other priorities throughout the week such as preparing for one's next opponent. The Steelers and San Francisco 49ers are the only two teams with a bye in Week 9, leading one to believe if either wide receiver-needy team wants to get a deal done entering the break, Tuesday would be the day to do it based on other teams having games to worry about.
Normally, trades are also done early in the week so the player that was dealt has time to adjust prior to a game the same week. In this scenario, it would be advantageous for Pittsburgh to go out and get a pass-catcher, and then allow that player to rest up, while also getting time to learn Arthur Smith's offensive system. It would be a much more strategically-sound play to trade for a play-maker on Tuesday.

While several trade targets may now be unavailable, some are still out there. The Steelers may decide that the offense is fine without another wideout, but it seems more likely that Khan will be looking to make some kind of splash to improve the roster. It will be intriguing to see which direction he goes, if any, but the reality of the situation is that it would be much more beneficial to bring a player in as Pittsburgh enters the bye week, and not after it.
Khan has been involved in plenty of trade rumors for what feels like the entire calendar year in 2024, but now finally may be his chance to make a difference. The offense could be one more viable threat away from being able to consistently put up 20 or more points in each game. That will be a recipe for success with the defense, and bringing in an external option at wide receiver is crucial to accomplishing that.
There are respectable options that are currently a part of the Steelers' wide receiving corps, but there's a reason Khan has often been linked to available pass-catchers. Pittsburgh desperately needs one more threat on the offensive end, and then the team can finally be considered a legitimate contender in the AFC. Many organizations are with the Steelers in needing help in the area, so Khan needs to strike on Tuesday while other teams have games to prepare for.

Steelers Can't Be Blinded By 2 Strong Weeks Of Offensive Performances
Pittsburgh has put up back-to-back 30-point games, which is certainly encouraging. That doesn't mean, however, that a move shouldn't be made to improve the offensive unit. The defense came up with several opportunistic turnovers and it's great to see the offense capitalize, but that may not always be the case. Getting another player to help move the ball downfield will be crucial, and that acquisition could absolutely be on the horizon come Tuesday.
