It can't be looked at as a good thing that the Pittsburgh Steelers have a plethora questions at the quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, running back and defensive line positions. For a team that finished the 2024 regular season with a record of 10-7 and made it to the playoffs, it still feels as if there are many more questions than answers. The offseason will be a crucial one for General Manager Omar Khan, specifically when it comes to the offensive side of the ball. The franchise hasn't been able to put a good product on the field in that area for several seasons.

Steelers General Manager Omar Khan hangs out with the fans and signs some autographs in Latrobe, PA during 2023 training camp.
The week of the NFL Scouting Combine is always exciting because it officially feels as if the new league year is right around the corner. It also is a time for fan bases across the league to hear from their respective team's front office leadership. Khan spoke with reporters on Tuesday and was asked several pressing questions about the depth chart and make-up of the roster.
It should come as a surprise to no one that the quarterback and wide receiver positions were highlighted more than once. The Steelers are severely lacking in both areas, and need to figure out a way to get more talent into the locker room.
The Steelers have not made a decision on which QB they will retain – or if they will bring in another – but they have been having discussions with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. GM Omar Khan said the team is considering all options as it prepares for free agency.

While signal-caller is the most important position on the field for any franchise, that individual needs weapons to throw the ball to. Pittsburgh has George Pickens, but needs to fortify the group around him if the offense wants to become more formidable. That has many pundits believing that the draft will be critical for the Steelers when it comes to adding a wideout or two.

Wide receiver George Pickens (#14) walks off the field with his head down during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2023 training camp practice in Latrobe, PA.
It would be a step in the right direction if Pickens could put behind him any on and off the field distractions he has brought to Pittsburgh in recent years. This would be the first step in extending him to a long-term deal. Regardless, he will need help around him. While in the media scrum, Khan highlighted some depth for the upcoming draft class. A few of the positions mentioned were the defensive line, defensive back and running back areas.
Khan did not mention wide receiver, which actually means a lot more than one may think. Khan also noted that adding a receiver in free agency would be a priority, but not giving credit to the collegiate prospects tells fans a couple of things. If the Steelers are planning to draft a wideout, it will be early, potentially in the first round. In a weak class, teams have to act quickly when a position of need isn't that deep.
This all but ensures that Pittsburgh should be expected to select a wide receiver in the first two rounds. It also hints at the fact that Khan and co. won't necessarily be looking for a diamond in the rough late.
Talent will be available when it comes to the deeper positions that he mentioned, but wide receiver-needy organizations won't have a ton of options as the board falls. Without saying anything about the draft class at the position specifically, Khan indirectly acknowledged that he will look at it early come late April.

Steelers Could End Up Being Very Aggressive In Wide Receiver Free Agent And Trade Markets
If Pittsburgh's front office doesn't love the draft class at wide receiver, but acknowledges that the position needs to be upgraded, that leaves to other options. Fans can expect some kind of money to be spent in free agency, but it also shouldn't come as a shock to anyone if a splash is made via trade. Khan said that fixing the receiving corps is critical, but with a weaker draft class, all options are on the table.
