In a recent episode of his podcast, Top Tier Topics Podcast, former Steelers offensive tackle Derwin Gray dove into the ongoing quarterback situation that has captivated the Steelers' fan base and the entire league. Gray provided his insights and thoughts on the team's search for a veteran quarterback, offering his unique perspective as a former player with intimate knowledge of the organization. Additionally, Gray addressed the comments made by Heyward, who stated that he would not actively recruit Rodgers to the team. Gray, in agreement with Heyward's viewpoint, shared his own thoughts on this matter.

"You should have some type of thing, something in you about wanting to win that you know that's the best organization for you that no one have to lay out a red carpet for you," Gray said.

Despite his remarkable achievements, questions persist regarding Rodgers' dedication to any potential team. He'd be joining a team that already has its own way of doing things, not creating a new one. Gray emphasized that there is no need for veteran leaders to actively recruit Rodgers to the Steelers, or any other team for that matter. Rodgers, as a seasoned professional, should be empowered to make an informed decision based on his own assessment of his needs for the optimal fit. Gray further elaborated on this perspective, reinforcing his point that Rodgers should choose his own path.

"No one needs you bro, 'cause they will figure out a way to make it work with Mason [Rudolph], and I think they will," Gray continued.

Speculation had arisen suggesting that the Steelers are prepared to proceed with Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback. Rudolph, who recently rejoined the team during the offseason as a backup option, is reportedly being considered as the primary signal-caller. This is an established contingency plan, should their pursuit of Rodgers result unsuccessfully.

Initially, Heyward's comments sparked discussion and speculation, with many interpreting them as subtle criticism directed towards Rodgers. Essentially, Heyward emphasized that he wouldn't be actively recruiting Rodgers, a sentiment that Gray echoed. Gray further elaborated on the maturity aspect of the situation, highlighting that both Heyward and Rodgers are mature adults. Given their professional status, Heyward, as a leader within the Steelers organization, felt that he shouldn't have to engage in any form of persuasion to convince Rodgers to join the team. Gray suggested that Heyward's time and energy are better spent focusing on preparing for the upcoming season, rather than attempting to sway Rodgers' decision.

"We don't have time to be sitting trying to recruit like it's high school," Gray added.

The Steelers Are Getting Mixed Opinions About Rodgers From Others

Rodgers' prolonged indecision has placed the Steelers in a state of extended anticipation, a waiting game that seems to stretch on without a clear end in sight. As the quarterback's decision-making process continues, a growing difference of opinions surrounding him has grown.

Many are expressing their frustration regarding the long nature of his decision, particularly as other NFL teams rapidly address their quarterback vacancies during the busy free agency period. Simultaneously, both players within the Steelers organization and the fan base have voiced their support for the potential acquisition of Rodgers, a Super Bowl-winning veteran. This public display of solidarity emphasizes the team's desire to secure Rodgers, and the perceived value he would bring to the Steelers. The longer this waiting game continues, the more scrutiny Rodgers will face.
