The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the more traditional organizations in the NFL, so it is rare that fans can get excited about any uniform tweaks or changes. The fan base loves when the team does some different things aesthetically, which is on display every time the organization announces that the end zones at Acrisure Stadium will be painted yellow or the team is scheduled to wear their color rush or block number jerseys. The team also wore helmets with grey face masks in 2024, and fans should expect some more change in 2025.

The Steelers have had some interesting uniforms over the years, including the infamous bumblebee jerseys. Pittsburgh hasn't gone too far outside of the box in recent memory, but the team is scheduled to have a new helmet shell for the 2025 season, which is expected to be revealed in July according to Andrew Lind of SportsLogos.net.

"According to multiple sources, the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders will all unveil new alternate helmets this summer, confirming a previous report from FanDuel’s Zach Cohen," Lind wrote. "One thing for certain is that the Chargers and Steelers will finally add a second shell to their respective closets."

This report confirms that the new helmet won't just be some minor tweak to the face mask or the shell itself, but an entirely new helmet. The obvious speculation is that Pittsburgh will be bringing back the gold helmets the team wore from 2007 through 2010, but nothing has been confirmed on the designs. Fans will have to wait until July to find out for sure.

Steelers Will Only Get New Helmets, Not Uniforms

While the helmet update is exciting, it will not be paired with any new uniforms. No team in the NFL is getting new permanent uniforms for the 2025 season, and Pittsburgh will probably wear the new helmet with the current color rush uniforms. The gold helmet would match perfectly, and the ensemble would particularly look great during a night game at Acrisure.

The NFL also recently announced a "Rivalries" uniform series where two divisions in each of the next four seasons will get new uniforms to wear during a home divisional game. These uniforms won't be permanent, but it will be interesting to see the first jersey promotion since the league did the color rush uniforms. The Steelers and the rest of the AFC North will be one of the last divisions in the series, as their uniforms won't debut until the 2028 season.
