Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are just around the corner for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but there is still no certainty on if their starting quarterback for the 2025 season is on the roster or not. Aaron Rodgers still has not signed a contract, and while analysts are speculating left and right about when he will sign, only the 41-year-old knows if or when he will get a deal done officially. For now, Steeler Nation waits restlessly as Rodgers decides.

Rodgers made an appearance on a live podcast for Mike. and dropped a major hint. A fan asked if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears. In typical Rodgers fashion, he teases the idea that he could play in Pittsburgh.
"No, but I believe thereβs a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip," said Rodgers. "I don't know, I'm not sure. I'll have to check it out. I love Chicago though."
Rodgers also got asked by another fan straight up if he was going to the Steelers. He responded to that with "ehhh" and wouldn't give an actual answer. As usual, he's just dropping hints left and right, but not actually setting anything in stone. No one will know what his decision will be until it's officially announced once and for all, whether he puts pen to paper on a contract or retirement forms.
In Week 12, the Steelers will go on the road to play against the Bears, which is most likely what he is referring to. No matter what team he plays for, Rodgers' return to Soldier Field will likely be met with boos for how he dominated them when he played for the Green Bay Packers. There are still plenty of hard feelings from Bears fans, and they would love nothing more than to watch him get annihilated.

There were some rumors floating around that Rodgers was in Pittsburgh on Friday, but if this live podcast was also that morning, then at least we know that those are false, as the show took place in Austin, Texas. The distance between the two cities is about 1,400 miles. Even by jet, it takes a while to settle in a Pittsburgh-area hotel after leaving Austin.

If anything, his refusal to commit to signing with the Steelers most likely means that he will not be wearing black and gold for OTAs. He could still show up for mandatory minicamp, but that's not a certainty either. That means Mason Rudolph will likely get his chance to prove that the team doesn't actually need the 41-year-old by performing well with the first-team offense during Phase 3 of the offseason program.
Could Steelers Lose Rodgers To Other Teams?
While the Minnesota Vikings are seemingly committed to sticking with their 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy, they travel to face the Bears in Week 1, which was the one clue that Rodgers gave. If the young quarterback struggles in training camp, maybe they are interested in letting the veteran complete the Brett Favre cycle.

After losing Derek Carr, the New Orleans Saints were seen as a team that may or may not benefit from signing Rodgers too. They drafted Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but like with the Vikings, they could give the former MVP a call to see if he's open to moving South. The Saints also go on the road to play the Bears in 2025. That game will be in Week 7.
What do you think about Rodgers dropping a hint on playing for the Steelers without actually committing to that? Will he play elsewhere? Let us know in the comments or on X at @Steelers_ChrisB.
