Steelers Schedueld To Meet With Big Name Wide Receiver In Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to add to their wide receiver room following the trade of George Pickens. They're back in basically the same position as they were last season when they were unable to acquire anyone notable to play opposite of Pickens. The only difference is that it's DK Metcalf now without another established playmaker to help draw attention opposite of him. While the Steelers have reportedly looked into various options on the trade market, they're now turning their attention to the free agent market, which still has multiple big-name options remaining.

According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the Steelers will host former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, Gabe Davis, on Thursday. The team has been rumored to be searching for another weapon for the offense, and Davis certainly would be an upgrade over some players in the wide receiver room.

Davis is coming off a disappointing stint with the Jaguars where he only played in 10 games catching 20 passes for 239 yards -- all career lows for Davis. The rough season also included a torn meniscus, which certainly played a role in the Jaguars coming to the decision to release him.

Davis signed a lucrative three-year deal with Jacksonville during the 2024 offseason. The deal was worth $39 million and included $24 million guaranteed. Due to his contract and the way in which he was released, he will still be earning money from the Jaguars for the 2025 season.

Essentially, whatever Davis signs for in 2025 will be taken from the amount that Jacksonville owes him, which is why signing for the veteran minimum is the most likely outcome. If he signs for the $1.17 million, then Jacksonville will still be paying him roughly $10.4 million. This was the same scenario that the Steelers were in with Russell Wilson after he was released by the Denver Broncos.

Steelers Have Struggled To Contain Gabe Davis

It is only a visit that is happening on Wednesday, but Pittsburgh fans should be reasonably excited if Davis did end up inking a deal with the black and gold. He has had some big performances against the Steelers over the years, and it would be nice to see him suiting up for the Steelers. The wide receiver has played in three games against the Steelers and has caught a total of eight passes for 230 yards and four touchdowns.

Davis could be a great addition, especially at the low price that Pittsburgh would be able to sign him at.
