The Pittsburgh Steelers are approaching the start of the 2025 regular season, and the fan base has been able to get a better idea of what the team is going to look like throughout training camp and the preseason. The roster is starting to come together, but General Manager Omar Khan and the rest of the front office is likely not done adding to the team. There are a few positions that need to be filled out, whether that be with guys at the top of the depth chart, or just adding players to improve depth. The positions to watch are wide receiver, the offensive line, and safety.

Amari Cooper, WR

Amari Cooper remains a free agent as the preseason is beginning to come to a close. All indications are that the veteran wide receiver wants to continue his playing career, but he hasn't seemed to take any visits up to this point. He is likely waiting until rosters are finalized, and he will then sign with a team. Pittsburgh should be considered one of the top choices for Cooper, as there is a clear place for him in the lineup and he would get to catch passes from one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game in Aaron Rodgers.

Cooper spent time with the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills during the 2024 season, and he totaled 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. He can still produce at a high level, and he should be able to elevate the offense of the Steelers. He would be one of the more reliable weapons for Rodgers, and he should be one of the top candidates to join the offense.

Cole Strange, LG

Cole Strange would be an interesting depth piece to add to the offensive line. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so he would need to be traded for unless he is cut when rosters are finalized. He was the New England Patriots' first-round pick back in 2022, but under the new regime in New England, he seems to be on the edge of the roster bubble. He would be able to slide in behind Isaac Seumalo, who has dealt with some soft tissue injuries throughout training camp and is in the final season of his contract as well.

The organization already added depth and experience behind Seumalo with Andrus Peat recently, who can play left guard and left tackle. However, bringing in Strange gives Pittsburgh an option at left guard past the 2025 season.

Steelers Could Look To Add All-Pro Safety

Pittsburgh made a drastic move at safety during the 2025 offseason as the team parted ways with Minkah Fitzpatrick. This left a hole at free safety, which is going to be filled by a mixture of Juan Thornhill and Jalen Ramsey. Both players have talent, and Thornhill has particularly impressed during the preseason. However, the organization might want to upgrade the position as a form of insurance, just in case changes are needed. Justin Simmons has the history of being one of the best safeties in the NFL, and he could provide another element to Pittsburgh's defense. This is probably an unlikely addition, but it is one that should be considered.

Khan is likely still working to improve the roster, so anything is on the table for the Steelers. It is clear that depth is going to be a priority, as will upgrading the wide receiver position. It is going to be interesting to watch the franchise operate over the next couple of weeks before the team opens the season on the road against the New York Jets in Week 1.
