The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to nearly every wide receiver that has reportedly become available over the last two years. The franchise has consistently been needing a reliable wide receiver, and it is something the organization is going to have to address in the near future. Pittsburgh has been connected to every disgruntled pass catcher that has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate, with the most recent players linked to the team including Tyreek Hill prior to his season-ending injury. His teammate Jaylen Waddle is even thought to be a possibility.

Pittsburgh parted ways with George Pickens during the 2025 offseason while bringing in DK Metcalf. It seemed to be a good deal for all parties involved in the two separate deals, but fans in Pittsburgh want to see another high-level wide receiver paired with Metcalf. The trade deadline is coming fast as it is set for November 4th, so a deal would have to be made in the near future. One name that has been going around is Rashid Shaheed of the New Orleans Saints, who could be sellers at the trade deadline as they currently have a 1-4 record.

Shaheed was an undrafted free agent back in 2022, and he is currently in his fourth season with the Saints. New Orleans has not been good throughout the time he has been with the franchise, but he has been one of the few bright spots. He always seems to be a big play threat, whether that be on offense or as a returner.

Shaheed has already had a great career for an undrafted free agent. He was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro at the end of the 2023 season, mainly due to his abilities as a returner. Shaheed was on pace to have a great season in 2024, but his season was cut short due to an injury. He was only able to play in six games, but he managed to haul in 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in those games. If he is able to stay healthy, he can be a real weapon in the league, which is something he has already shown.

The wide receiver and returner is in the final year of his deal with New Orleans, so it would make sense for the organization to look to trade him elsewhere if they don't see him in their future. The Saints don't really seem to have much of a direction at this point, so he would probably be inclined to leave New Orleans once free agency opens up for him during the 2026 offseason.

Steelers Need A Guy Like Rashid Shaheed On The Roster
Shaheed provides a different sort of play style at wide receiver for Pittsburgh. He can take the top off of the defense, which is something that Calvin Austin III can do, but he is bigger and more of a threat with the ball in his hands. Pittsburgh has also been one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to returning kickoffs, so adding a highlight play machine like Shaheed could help in that area as well.
