Steelers Have Secret Weapon To Stop The Red Hot Miami Dolphins In Week 15

The Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 15 matchup features a visit from the Miami Dolphins, who are currently in the midst of an extortionary comeback to their season in their own right. The Dolphins started their 2025 campaign in shambles, going 2-7 while losing superstar receiver Tyreek Hill for the season with a devastating knee injury. Many counted out the Dolphins for good reason, and after a "mutual" parting with General Manager Chris Grier, it was widely speculated that Head Coach Mike McDaniel would be next out the door. The Dolphins and McDaniel had other ideas.

The Dolphins have been on a tear recently, winners of four straight and now firmly in the playoff race in the AFC at 6-7. This week's matchup against the Steelers, however, will have something that has given Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa fits throughout his career: the cold.

Despite Tagovailoa dismissing the narrative around not being able to play as well in cold weather games, the stats do show some validity to it. In fact, the Dolphins' win over the lowly Jets in Week 14 was the quarterback's first career win in a game with kickoff temperatures at 46 degrees or lower. While Tagovailoa can dismiss this narrative, and finally getting a win against a team in a cold weather game will help in doing so, the Steelers are not the Jets. Monday night's game will be freezing, with the expected temperature at kickoff just 21 degrees. If Tagovailoa can get the job done against the Steelers on the road on this blistering Monday night, he will officially put the narrative behind him of not being able to perform as well in the cold. The Steelers are hoping that the cold remains his kryptonite.

Steelers QB Is Much Better In The Cold

While Tagovailoa's struggles with cold weather are well-documented, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' success in the cold is even more pronounced. When you're the Green Bay Packers quarterback for 18 seasons, from the time Rodgers was drafted in 2005 until 2023, playing in the cold is a prerequisite in Wisconsin, known for its infamous frozen tundra. While Rodgers is now in the twilight of his first-ballot Hall of Fame career, his arm strength is as strong as ever, as he showed earlier this season with the  longest pass in any game in the NFL since 2017, a 69.8-yard attempt.

Monday night's game between the Steelers and the Dolphins is a must-win for both teams. With the stakes high and the temperature low, there aren't many quarterbacks you'd want under center over Rodgers.
