There were a lot of happy Pittsburgh Steelers fans on Monday. General Manager Omar Khan was active throughout one of the league's most exhilarating times. The legal tampering period began, and the organization started with a big swing, acquiring Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts. The team now has two legitimate receiving options, and the offense is slowly starting to take shape. The quarterback position has yet to be fully sorted out; however, the franchise cannot be commended enough for being aggressive. The front office is proving that ownership wants to win now, rather than experience an off year that results in a high draft pick.

The main reason that Pittman quickly became available was because of a massive deal that was agreed upon between the Colts and Alec Pierce. It was very clear what the intentions for Indianapolis were, and Khan made sure to capitalize on a very opportunistic situation. The NFL is a business and every year it is anyone's guess as to what players franchises will look at as expendable. Pittman felt that on Monday.
There was plenty of reaction after the move was reported, which shouldn't come as a surprise. The wideout has been a steady force in the AFC South for several years, and now he is going to take his talents to the Steel City to compete in the AFC North. He is a perfect player to complement DK Metcalf in what should be a very fresh looking offense.
One former player who knows all about playing for the Colts is six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne. The retiree weighed in on the decision made by Indianapolis to deal Pittman to the Steelers. He expressed some displeasure, but mainly because the organization decided to move on from someone who was a staple in its offense and locker room.
"Happy for Alec. But I hate it for Pitt. He set the tone for the room each and everyday," Wayne wrote on X.
While Wayne is more so talking about how upsetting it is that Pittman will no longer be playing for the team that drafted him, one has to wonder if Wayne is worried about Pittman's future production while playing for the Steelers.
Loyalty is a tough thing to find in the NFL nowadays. Teams will quickly give up on aging players who don't seem to be in their future plans. Pittsburgh had no problem with taking advantage of that sentiment in Indianapolis. It means just a little bit more when a legendary pass-catcher from the Colts went out and made a public statement about the front office parting ways with a fan favorite.

Last time the Steelers seemed to have finally figured out the wide receiver spot, Khan fooled everyone and traded George Pickens just months after acquiring Metcalf. Now, it appears that the organization is pretty committed to a new duo that could be very effective moving forward. Pittman isn't just a solid contributor, either; he has always been known as a phenomenal teammate, and was pumped after learning about his next journey.

The Khan era has been a complete change of pace for Pittsburgh's franchise. There has been a lot more aggression, a little less of retaining internal free agents, and a whole lot of trades. This is just the most recent example and the Colts' fan base is now one that has to deal with regret if the wideout flashes for the next few seasons in the Steel City.

Steelers Will Continue To Build Toward Winning In 2026
Pittsburgh has no interest in playing poorly enough to land a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. While that may be necessary to get a franchise signal-caller, Khan is likely confident that he can make it happen via trade regardless of positioning. Pittman was originally looked at as a one-year rental, but then it came out that he was signing a new three-year contract. The Steelers clearly want to repeat as AFC North champions, and the offense is beginning to look dynamic enough to do just that.
