The Pittsburgh Steelers are being connected to potential supplemental player Brendan Sorsby, and rightfully so. Despite having four quarterbacks on the roster, the front office doesn't have a real answer when it comes to the future at the position. It's why the team has constantly been in the headlines whenever a signal-caller is potentially available. This situation is a lot different than one that might come up in free agency or the trade market, but it's impossible to deny the fact that general manager Omar Khan might at least be pondering the idea of exploring the prospect from Texas Tech.

Sorsby officially applied for entry into the NFL's rare Supplemental Draft, and interested teams will have the option to bid a certain round's 2027 draft pick on the quarterback. Depending on how many organizations get involved, it could make for a pretty intriguing story. Whichever franchise ends up selecting him could be taking on a big risk, or could potentially have the steal of the decade.
First, there will be an official Pro Day held so he can showcase his talents for scouts and executives. It is set to occur on the 10th of July, but that is a tentative date at this time. The league office still needs to approve his application.
During an episode of Steelers Collective on Tuesday evening, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette beat writer and team insider Ray Fittipaldo provided some context about Sorsby's upcoming Pro Day. Teams will show their cards based on attendance at the event, and fans in the Steel City should keep an eye on who will be there representing Pittsburgh.
"NFL teams are on vacation. These guys want their time off," Fittipaldo stated. "Is Mike McCarthy going to go, or is it going to be some other front office executive? Now, if it's Omar Khan, then you say, 'Okay, there's going to be some interest.' Andy Weidl โ okay, yeah. There's some interest there. But, if there's some low-level scout that people outside the team have never heard of, then that could probably tell you what the Steelers, you know, are thinking about that situation."
This makes sense coming from the reporter. Once training camp begins at the end of July, teams are full throttle ahead until their respective seasons ends. If Khan, or assistant general manager Andy Weidl, end up at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, then some heads should start to turn. It would be especially significant if new head coach Mike McCarthy made the trip.

However, it might be a little cat-and-mouse game that goes on when it comes to Sorsby's Pro Day that is scheduled. If any franchise sends some of the most important decision-makers, it implies that that organization is planning on using a relatively high draft selection to try and get him. If the Steelers had McCarthy, Khan, or Weidl there, it would definitely mean that Pittsburgh was possibly planning on getting aggressive.
This is all hypothetical as of now, especially because the NFL has to actually allow it to happen. With that said, the workout for Sorsby could end up being a massive hint when it comes to his future destination. The Steelers can't be ruled out of the discussion because there is currently no long-term solution at the most important position in all of sports.

Steelers Could Technically Bluff And Shock Everybody
Pittsburgh is not oblivious to the fact that it needs a franchise quarterback. However, taking Sorsby would be quite the risk. This is why the team may not send anyone notable to the signal-caller's workout in July. Then, out of nowhere, Khan and co. could bid a third-round pick to end up on top of the Sorsby sweepstakes. It seems unlikely, but anything is possible, especially for an organization that has been struggling to find some continuity under center for roughly half a decade.
