Steelers' Mike McCarthy Addresses Aaron Rodgers' Controversial Comments: "Keep It About Football"

The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially underway with training camp practices in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The environment looks electric as it always does, and the team is finally taking shape as fans are getting a better idea of what the group might look like during the 2026 season. There has been a ton of change since the 2025 season came to a close, and most of that has come on the coaching staff. The roster has shuffled a bit, but the change everyone is paying attention to is Mike McCarthy taking over the reins of the offense as the new head coach in Pittsburgh.

One thing that is not changing for the Steelers is the franchise's starting quarterback. Aaron Rodgers decided to return on a one-year deal, and reuniting with McCarthy certainly played a factor in that. This is the first time since the 2020 and 2021 seasons that the Steelers will have the same starting quarterback in back-to-back Week 1 games, which is good for the continuity of the team. It also means Rodgers gets to return to Latrobe, which is a place he thoroughly enjoyed in 2025.

The Steelers put the pads on for the first time on Monday, and The Pat McAfee Show was in town for a live taping of its show. Rodgers joined the program, and he made some controversial remarks about Anthony Fauci, COVID, Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel, and a couple of other things. He let his mind be heard, and he was applauded by many for that. McCarthy was asked about his comments during his presser on Tuesday, and he shared a fairly plain response.

"These are grown men," McCarthy said. "They all have different opinions. There's no question about that. At the end of the day, my job is to keep it about football."

This response from the head coach kind of echoes the response that the organization issued on Monday night. Both the organization and McCarthy seem respectful of their players' opinions, which certainly vary. It is unlikely that either the franchise or McCarthy enjoyed having to have a response prepared for this explosion of comments from Rodgers, but that is kind of what a team should expect when getting into business with the quarterback.

Rodgers has never been shy when it comes to sharing his opinions on certain matters, and that has made him some sort of controversial figure. It has tainted his reputation with some fans across the NFL, but the quarterback has made it clear that he does not care. He is going to speak his mind and defend his opinions, which is something everyone in America has the right to do. He ridiculed Fauci live on the air, and he then ripped apart the very network he was appearing on for its lack of coverage on the biggest scandal in the NFL of the last year. He was furious that it saw no coverage, but everything that happens in his personal life is on the front page and leads every show.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Seems Rejuvenated

Everything Rodgers said during his appearance on the show is going to be in the news, but the quarterback also spoke about how much fun he is having being back in Latrobe with his teammates. He seems genuinely excited for the season, which he has already announced is going to be his last. He is enjoying every moment of his final ride, and he has said he is going to disappear once his career is done with aside from a few golf tournaments.
