The Pittsburgh Steelers have a ton of recognizable names on the roster, and the weapons on the offensive side of the ball look a lot better than they have in years. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going to have a ton of options in the passing game, and that should make it easier for each wide receiver on the team. In 2025, the only truly reliable wide receiver in Pittsburgh was DK Metcalf, and because of that, opposing defenses were able to a allocate enough resources to him to completely wipe him out of the game. That caused some frustration to grow within Metcalf throughout the season, and fans saw it bubble over at the end of the year.

Metcalf had a rough season when it came to production in 2025, but he also struggled to keep his emotions in check. During a road win over the Detroit Lions, he got into an altercation with a fan that was sitting behind Pittsburgh's bench. A lot was made of the "fight," and it all started because the fan was antagonizing Metcalf and trying to get a rise out of him. It worked, and Metcalf wound up being suspended for the final two games of the regular season. Both games were essentially to win the AFC North, and he couldn't play in either of them. Thankfully the Steelers won the AFC North title game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 to punch the franchise's ticket to the postseason.
Pittsburgh hosted a playoff game for the first time since the 2020 season, but the team got completely embarrassed by the Houston Texans as they lost by a score of 30-6. The offense struggled, and that includes Metcalf who had a bad drop in the first half. Former Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson seemed to reference that in a recent post to X.

He responded to an image of Metcalf reaching out and extending his body to make an impressive catch during training camp, but Nelson brought his playoff drop up and noted that he doesn't think Metcalf is all that. Hopefully the wide receiver sees this and decides to use it for some extra motivation during the 2026 season.

The Steelers lost the playoff game by 24 points, so it is not like one catch could have changed the outcome of the entire game. Maybe the score would have been closer, and maybe Pittsburgh could have felt less embarrassed if the offense had managed to find the end zone for once at the end of that drive that was ended by the drop.
The drop came near the end of the first quarter while the Steelers held a 3-0 lead. The offense was approaching midfield, and the completion would have put Pittsburgh near the red zone. With the way the offense was playing that day, had Metcalf caught the ball, it probably would have only amounted to a field goal anyway at best. Metcalf finished the game with two receptions for 42 yards and was the team's leading receiver.
Steelers' DK Metcalf Has Shared The Field With Steven Nelson Before
Nelson played for the Steelers in 2019 and 2020, and the Steelers took on the Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 season. That was Metcalf's rookie year, and it was just the second game of his career. He recorded three receptions for 61 yards and a score, so he didn't struggle too much against Nelson and Pittsburgh's secondary.
