The Pittsburgh Steelers could use another playmaker at wide receiver, and Tyreek Hill remains an intriguing name to watch as the veteran works toward an NFL return. With injuries creating uncertainty at the position, the possibility of adding an established weapon is interesting for Pittsburgh, particularly if other teams are hesitant to make a move.

Pittsburgh entered the 2026 season hoping to give Aaron Rodgers a receiving group capable of making life easier for the veteran quarterback. However, injuries have tested that depth in recent weeks, leaving the Steelers searching for answers as they attempt to remain competitive in a demanding AFC North. Michael Pittman Jr's absence has added to those concerns.
With Pittsburgh needing its available receivers to step up, the organization could explore outside options if it believes another experienced player would improve the offense. That has made the possibility of adding a veteran such as Hill an interesting talking point.
Hill would present a fascinating option because of his history as one of the NFL's most explosive offensive weapons. During his time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, his acceleration, route running ability, and open field speed made him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.
For an offense led by Rodgers, a receiver capable of stretching the field could create opportunities throughout the passing game. Hill's speed could force defenses to respect the deep ball, potentially opening space underneath for DK Metcalf and Pittsburgh's other receiving options.
However, the question is not simply whether Hill would improve Pittsburgh's receiving talent. The Steelers would need to determine whether signing him makes sense given his health, availability, and the circumstances surrounding his potential return. Hill is working toward a comeback after suffering a significant knee injury in September of 2025. His recovery is an important factor for any team considering signing him, especially one hoping to get immediate contributions from a new addition.
The Steelers must also consider whether pursuing Hill would be a realistic move. Although adding a player with his experience and playmaking ability could improve the offense, Pittsburgh would need confidence in his health and his ability to fit into the team's plans.
The Kansas City Chiefs are another team connected to Hill because of his successful history with the organization. However, the latest reporting suggests Kansas City might not be in a hurry to bring its former star back. Jonathan Jones of The Athletic dove into this on Saturday morning.
"The health of Hillβs knee is one factor," Jones wrote. "The money will be another, as no one expects him to sign a veteran minimum deal. And then thereβs the potential NFL discipline. Put those in whatever order youβd like, but nothing seems imminent."
That detail is worth watching because Kansas City would be a natural destination for a player who previously enjoyed tremendous success with the franchise. Jones added even more context.
"As it stands now, I donβt get the sense the Chiefs are in a rush to sign Tyreek Hill."
Familiarity does not necessarily mean a reunion is imminent. Hill's recovery, the team's current needs, and the terms of a potential contract could all influence the decision.
Steelers May Benefit From The Chiefs' Hesitation
If the Chiefs are content to wait, Hill's situation could remain open longer than some might expect. That would not automatically mean Pittsburgh is interested or preparing to make an offer, but it could leave the Steelers with another veteran receiver to evaluate if they decide their injury situation warrants outside help. There is an important distinction between identifying a possible fit and reporting genuine team interest.
Unless Pittsburgh confirms discussions or makes a move, Hill should be viewed as a potential option rather than an imminent addition. The Steelers also have to weigh the benefits of bringing in an established name against giving their current receivers more opportunities. Young players could develop into useful contributors if they receive additional snaps, while a veteran signing would need to provide enough value to justify the investment.
For Rodgers and the offense, the priority is finding dependable options who can contribute when called upon. Hill's history of explosive production makes him an appealing name, but his availability and recovery timeline remain central to any potential decision.

Ultimately, the Chiefs' apparent lack of urgency adds another layer to Hill's uncertain future. Pittsburgh could monitor the situation as it evaluates its receiving depth, but there is not enough evidence to suggest the Steelers are actively pursuing him.
With injuries putting additional pressure on the offense, the Steelers have reason to explore their options. Whether that eventually leads them toward Hill remains to be seen, but his situation is worth monitoring as Pittsburgh looks for ways to keep its passing attack productive.
