The Pittsburgh Steelers could be looking at their most important game of the season in Week 8. The Cleveland Browns travel to Pittsburgh for the final meeting between the two teams in the 2026 regular season. Both teams are 5-2, with the Browns leading the division because of their earlier win against the Steelers. This game will determine the leader of the AFC North and could very well decide the division. Browns edge rusher Jared Verse has talked down about Pittsburgh, but we all know the Steelers will not take that lightly.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse talks to the media after taking part in OTAs at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus of the Cleveland Browns in Berea, Ohio on June 2, 2026.

The Browns acquired Verse in a blockbuster deal that sent Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. So far, Verse has made little impact on the Browns' defense, recording just 10 solo tackles and 0 sacks. Verse is viewed as a young, rising star in the NFL, but through his first seven games in Cleveland, he has not lived up to that image.

After the Browns defeated the Steelers in Week 4, Verse talked some major smack about Pittsburgh.

"I was talking to them crazy. I was telling them that they were double-teaming, sliding, and they were garbage. I do not have any respect for players that play too dirty and do too much extra stuff after the game," Verse said.

This is tough talk from a player who has done relatively little to help his team win games. During the Week 4 matchup, Pittsburgh's offensive line had its way with Verse, with many postgame photos showing him being dominated on multiple occasions.

Verse's words and attitude should fire up the Steelers' offense to get off to a hot start and make Week 8 a rough outing for the Browns. During a recent episode of Kaboly + Mack Live, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly discussed Verse's comments and how his trash talk could motivate Pittsburgh's offensive line.

"It is going to be a war. They are going to impose their will on Jared Verse," Kaboly said. "I think he has opened his mouth a bit too much. Brock Hoffman and Mason McCormick are going to go after him. A guy that has no sacks should not come out and say what he is going to do to them. Fautanu beat the hell out of him last time."

Pittsburgh's offensive line has improved each week, so Sunday's matchup should be a big test for the unit. Rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor has started to emerge as a key player, helping the offensive line become one of the best in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Max Iheanachor (71) leaves the field after defeating the New Orleans Saints at Stade de France Stadium in Week 7 of the 2026 regular season.

The Week 8 matchup between the two teams is shaping up to be a bloodbath, with a lot at stake for both teams. The Browns have shocked the world with their 5-2 start, but have had questions surrounding them as a legitimate contender in the AFC. While the Steelers have also been viewed as a weaker team than their record suggests, they have a history of success to back up their record. The Browns have a history of losing, so hopefully Sunday will continue the trend.

Week 8 Is A Must-Win For The Steelers

While Pittsburgh is 5-2 and has a chance to take control of the division in Week 8, the AFC North is extremely competitive, with all four teams above .500. Heading into its Week 9 bye, Pittsburgh will have played Cleveland twice and the Cincinnati Bengals once, leaving one more matchup against the Bengals and two against the Baltimore Ravens. We all know how competitive this division is, and picking up a win to take control of the AFC North is crucial to Pittsburgh's chances of winning it. Baltimore and Cincinnati are always tough opponents, especially late in the season. Pittsburgh's second-hardest remaining schedule only makes this Week 8 contest that much more important.
