The Pittsburgh Steelers know how quickly things can change in the AFC North. A team can enter a week preparing for an important stretch of its schedule, only to watch its plans fall apart before the next game even begins. That appears to be the situation developing for the Baltimore Ravens, a collective that has received another brutal update. Pittsburgh already had reason to monitor what was happening with its division rival, but the latest news makes Baltimore’s immediate future even more uncertain.

The Steelers have their own responsibilities to handle and cannot afford to spend too much time worrying about another team. However, injuries at the most important position in football can change the direction of a division race. Baltimore now faces a challenge that goes well beyond making a few adjustments to its offensive game plan.
Lamar Jackson’s thumb injury had already forced the Ravens to prepare to play without their starting quarterback. The hope in those situations is that a backup can provide enough stability to keep the season moving. Baltimore no longer has that option with its most experienced alternative, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
“Sources: tests revealed that Ravens’ QB Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley suffered a season-ending turf toe injury.”
That is a crushing development for a team that already needed help under center. Tyler Huntley’s familiarity with Baltimore made him an especially important piece once Jackson went down. Now, the Ravens must move forward without either quarterback available, creating an uncomfortable situation ahead of a quick turnaround.
A second update explained just how significant the problem has become for Pittsburgh’s division rival and head coach Jesse Minter. The Ravens are going to be without their top two signal-callers for a significant amount of time.
“Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is out indefinitely with a thumb injury, Huntley’s season is over due to turf toe, and QB Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night vs. Jacksonville.”
Joe Fagnano now has to prepare for a starting opportunity under circumstances that would challenge just about any quarterback. A Thursday night game leaves little time to work through changes, and Baltimore cannot simply assume its offense will function the same way with another player taking snaps. The coaching staff must figure out what Fagnano handles best and build around those strengths.
There is also a considerable difference between replacing Jackson temporarily and losing the quarterback who was supposed to help cover his absence. Baltimore has now reached that second problem. Huntley will not return later in the schedule to provide another option, putting even more importance on whatever happens with Jackson’s recovery.
For the Steelers, the news reinforces how valuable it is to take care of business while opportunities exist. Pittsburgh cannot control Baltimore’s injury situation, but it can control whether it gives its rival room to recover. Allowing winnable games to slip away would become even more frustrating with the Ravens trying to navigate this kind of uncertainty.
Baltimore’s other offensive players will have to do more to help their new starter. Protecting Fagnano, avoiding penalties and creating manageable third downs become particularly important. Falling behind early could force the Ravens into situations they would prefer to avoid while working with a different quarterback.
The Jacksonville Jaguars also enter the matchup knowing Baltimore has limited time to get comfortable with its latest change. That does not guarantee anything about Thursday’s result, but it adds another difficult element for the Ravens. Fagnano must handle the assignment while the players around him adjust to another voice leading the huddle.

Steelers Must Capitalize On The Ravens’ Growing Problems
Pittsburgh should understand that Baltimore’s injuries create an opening without guaranteeing anything. Division races can turn again, and Pittsburgh cannot build its approach around assumptions about another team’s struggles. The focus must remain on stacking wins and limiting its own mistakes.
However, losing Huntley for the season while Jackson remains out indefinitely puts the Ravens in a difficult position. Fagnano now carries an enormous responsibility against Jacksonville, and Baltimore has little time to settle into its new circumstances. Pittsburgh has every reason to pay attention, but the best response would be giving its rival even more ground to make up.
