Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders has shown that he can still play at a high level after giving the San Francisco 49ers a boost on offense this past season. Although San Francisco fell short of a Super Bowl victory, Sanders played a big role in helping the 49ers reach the big game, but now enters free agency heading into the 2020-21 season.
Sanders is approaching his 11th season, but has shown no signs of slowing down just yet. After spending the first four years of his career with the Steelers, Sanders has recently stated he would like to rejoin the Steelers. Despite his feelings about rejoining the team that drafted him, things were not always so positive for Sanders in Pittsburgh.
In a recent interview with The Athletic's Ed Bouchette, Sanders opened up about the rocky relationship with Ben Roethlisberger.
"When I first got to Pittsburgh, Ben was still like a little bit of (a jerk) and a lot of people didn't know that," Sanders said. "That was in 2010. Ben has grown up a lot, you know? He was still like a (jerk). I had to deal with him for like two years as a rookie with him being (a jerk), you know. I said who the (heck) is this dude? So I grew to not like him but just to deal with him. But from what I've heard, he's grown up a lot, which is good because I've grown up too."
Although the reunion can only be viewed speculatively at this point, Sanders seems open to the idea of going back to the team that drafted him back in 2010. At this point in Roethlisberger's career, a reliable target in the passing game could make life easier for Big Ben after coming off a season ending elbow injury.
