Both Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, and defensive tackle, Cam Heyward, addressed the media on Wednesday. When asked about their early team success, both team captains shared their insight.
"Knowing that we kind of are a veteran team, guys have been together for a long time. Our systems haven't changed in terms of offense and defense, coaches are the same. I think that definitely helps and has contributed to the early season success." - Ben Roethlisberger"We didn't know if we were going to have fans to start the season, so the emphasis was to start fast." - Cam Heyward
When asked about how reliable Pittsburgh's defense has been through this stretch, Roethlisberger was quick to give credit where credit has been due.
"You can just play more free because you know what your defense is going to give you." Roethlisberger continued. "Going into every week, as an offense, I know as a quarterback, we enjoy what we have over there [on defense]."
As for the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys, Heyward expressed how he and the defense are focused on getting back to stopping the run, and slowing down the very talented, Ezekiel Elliott.
"The rushing yards were definitely a concern [against Baltimore]. After looking at the tape, we didn't stay sound." Heyward continued. "We have to continue to improve on that. We're dealing with a heck of a back this week. Zeke is that guy."
When asked about the recent acquisition of inside linebacker, Avery Williamson, Roethlisberger was clear on his thoughts about the recent trade.
"Anybody that can come help this team win, we're all for it."
In closing out the interview, Heyward was asked about Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, and his thoughts on how great his leadership has been through the past couple of seasons.
"He's not just a great Black head coach. He's a great head coach. This dude deserves more than enough credit."
We'll have more media access from the Steelers this week, stay tuned!
