The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently headed into their bye week during Week 6 of the 2023 season on top of the AFC North. After beating the Baltimore Ravens during Week 5, they were able to leapfrog them to the top, at least for now. While the Steelers haven't played the Cincinnati Bengals yet, they beat the Cleveland Browns and their quarterback Deshaun Watson during Week 2, 26-22. The win was an ugly one, with the Steelers defense scoring more than the offense. The following week, Watson apparently injured his shoulder and has been nursing it ever since. Now, one former Steelers player has expressed how highly critical he is of Watson and his inability to play.

Recently, the Browns announced that Watson would not play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, instead choosing to start P.J. Walker. Watson has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has been called a "bruised rotator cuff," since the Browns' Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans. The original plan was for Watson to return Week 6, but now it appears those plans are delayed. That just isn't good enough said Willie Colon, former Steelers offensive guard.
Colon recently appeared on The Carton Show where he said that he feels that the Browns "climbed Mt. Olympus" to get Watson from the Houston Texans. They even traded then-quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers to make Watson the starter. The Browns also gave Watson what was then the biggest guaranteed contract in NFL history.
"We've watched three weeks of Joe Burrow sit in the pocket, take shots after shot, drag his leg up and down the field and try to win his team a d**n football game. I'm a fan of Deshaun Watson, but if I'm on the offensive line, I'm like, 'Come on homie! You're embarrassing us!' You should be embarrassed of yourself because in the AFC North, we pride ourselves on football, defense, and going out and kicking butt."
Colon is quick to remind listeners that players in the AFC North are supposed to be built differently. The division prides itself on smashmouth football and on tough, resilient players. After all, we just heard about former Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt, popping his own dislocated finger back in the socket so he didn't have to come off the field.
"He's supposed to be a butt kicker, he is SOFT right now! AC Joint? There's Toradol, cocaine, Jack Daniels, whatever you need to get you on Sunday. You gotta play! If I was for the Cleveland Browns, I would be absolutely livid. Get your tail out there and play some d**n football."
While Colon was clearly joking about Watson using an illegal substance to get back on the field, he wasn't joking about the sense that Watson should be chomping at the bit to return. He has been a game-to-game decision since sustaining the injury. Most fans were surprised when the Browns did not start him in Week 4 as he was listed as "questionable." Instead, the team played backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who said he didn't find out he was playing until Watson was ruled inactive.

The Cleveland Browns took quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in Round 5 to back up Deshaun Watson.
During that game, in which Cleveland lost to Baltimore, Thompson-Robinson threw three interceptions. He joined the Browns practice squad late in August of 2023 after being released by the Chicago Bears. Now the team seems to be willing to try something new and plans to start Walker.
Steelers Players Know Tough Quarterbacks
Colon certainly knows about tough quarterbacks, as he protected Ben Roethlisberger for the majority of his career. He was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round in 2006 and played both guard and tackle during his career. He was a member of the team that beat the Arizona Cardinals to win Super Bowl XLIII.
Roethlisberger suffered a myriad of injuries during his 18-year career in Pittsburgh, including a broken nose, broken thumb, elbow, hip, and knee injuries, plus concussions, as well as many ankle and foot injuries. That isn't even a complete list either. He had so many injuries that there were pictures detailing all of the parts of his body he had hurt.
He isn't the only tough quarterback the division has seen. Bengals' Joe Burrow is currently playing through injuries as much as possible. He strained his right calf on the second day of the 2023 training camp and then reinjured it in Week 2. Burrow and the Bengals were favored to win the AFC North and contend for the Super Bowl again this season, but the injury has had a devastating effect on his production. He went from the highest completion rating in NFL history (68.2%) to the third-worst completion percentage 57.6%. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to attempt at least 150 passes in the first four games and fail to average at least five yards per attempt.
