The Pittsburgh Steelers have had an exciting offseason, largely due to the addition of two new quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Both players arrived in Pittsburgh eager to prove they still belong as starters in the NFL, setting the stage for a thrilling quarterback battle that will unfold throughout the 2024 season.

The Steelers began their preseason with a 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans. While the defeat was disappointing, it's essential for fans to keep in mind that it's only preseason, a time for ironing out wrinkles and assessing talent. Despite the slow start, the team quickly returned to camp, refocusing on preparation and finding ways to boost morale.

On Sunday night, the Steelers took a break from the grind and had some fun with their annual home run derby. The event brought the players together on the baseball field for some light-hearted competition, showcasing their skills in a different arena. Wilson having been drafted in the MLB two different times was most likely the heavy favorite to win the derby.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin couldn't hide his excitement as he announced the winner on his Instagram

"Way to show up and win the home run title [Justin]," Tomlin wrote.

Fields claimed the 2024 camp home run derby title, adding another highlight to his already exciting start with the Steelers.

Fields is an incredible athlete who has consistently demonstrated his talents over three years in the NFL, rushing for 2,220 yards and throwing for 40 touchdowns. While his ability to win a home run derby might not impact his performance on the field in Pittsburgh, it's still exciting to see him fully embracing his current situation.

Fields entered the NFL as a top prospect, expected to lead a franchise. Now, he's in a quarterback battle with Wilson, with many pundits predicting he might not come out on top. The NFL can be unforgiving, but Fields’ attitude has been exceptional, and Tomlin has appreciated his presence in Pittsburgh. It would be easy for Fields to be upset that he's not viewed as a certified starter but instead he's embraced it. He's hungry to try and win the job.

Wilson, on the other hand, had the potential for a career in the MLB if he had chosen that path instead of playing quarterback. Steelers fans are likely curious about how Wilson performed during the home run derby, but more importantly, they’re happy to see the team bonding and enjoying some fun together. Steeler Nation is eagerly anticipating Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Buffalo Bills, excited to watch their team in action once again.
