The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the more respected organizations in the NFL; however, the lack of recent postseason success has the fan base extremely frustrated. The Steelers have lost six consecutive playoff games, which has led to a large chunk of fans calling for Head Coach Mike Tomlin to be fired or traded. Tomlin's job security has been in question in recent years, but this time around, it feels different. Even members of the national media have been turning on him and suggesting that it may be time for the two sides to part ways.

Tomlin still does have some people out there defending him. The argument on that side is typically something about how the roster isn't actually that good, and the team wouldn't even be able to sniff the playoffs without Tomlin being in charge.
One of the more respected analysts currently covering the NFL is Dan Orlovsky, and he suggested on Get Up that anyone that wants Tomlin fired is a lunatic. He made some claims that the Steelers are a lot closer to the bottom of the league than people think, and Tomlin is the reason they have the success they do.
"So to sit here and think that we're just gonna get rid of Mike Tomlin as an organization, we're just gonna go find another really good football coach that's really smart, and he's going to do it as good or better job, also, without a quarterback is lunacy." Orlovsky said. "I mean, quarterback-wise, the Steelers are closer to the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts than they are the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills."
There is no doubt that the NFL is a quarterback-driven league. In order to have success in the postseason, a team needs to have some great play from that position, and the Steelers haven't had that in quite some time. There was a time during the 2024 season where some fans thought the Russell Wilson-led Steelers could be serious competitors, but that thought was quickly debunked once Pittsburgh played some real competition.

Many fans want the Steelers to find their next franchise quarterback, but that is hard to do with how mediocre Pittsburgh is. Tomlin has the infamous streak of 18 non-losing seasons, but sometimes it seems like that hurts the franchise.
Consistently picking in the late-teens or early-20s of the NFL Draft is not ideal when trying to find a quarterback. In a loaded quarterback class, all of the good players at the position are gone by the time that pick rolls around. That was seen in 2024 as the top six quarterbacks were taken within the first 12 picks.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin May Be Getting Stale Within The Pittsburgh Locker Room
Tomlin gets the most out of his rosters, but that doesn't really mean anything if the Steelers are consistently a first-round exit in the postseason. After 18 seasons, his voice could easily be getting stale in that locker room. The organization is content in bringing him back for the 2025 season and beyond, which is frustrating for a lot of the fanbase.
Not only is Pittsburgh failing to advance in the playoffs, it is getting absolutely embarrassed during their appearances. The Steelers have lost by multiple possessions in each of their last four playoff losses, which isn't a great argument to keep Tomlin around.
It is clear the Steelers are nowhere near the true competitors in the AFC like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens. However, it is certainly a reality-check to be compared to the bottom-of-the-barrel teams like the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, or Indianapolis Colts.
