The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 offseason is expected to be flooded with rumors, specifically surrounding the quarterback and wide receiver positions. The expectation is for either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to return and work as the first-string signal-caller, but neither has agreed to re-sign just yet. With free agency roughly a month away, time is ticking for the front office to get a deal done. There are veteran names such as Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford being thrown around, but no one has any idea what the organization's quarterback room is going to look like when the regular season kicks off in September.

With this kind of controversy, several crazy rumors will spread, so it's very possible that Rodgers and Stafford aren't the wildest names that end up being connected to the Steelers. The plot thickened on Thursday morning, when Ryan Burr reported that Pittsburgh has a serious interest in a former first overall pick that hasn't yet reached his ceiling.
Steelers have made inquiries to the @Jaguars about a trade for QB Trevor Lawerence. This directly from the horses mouth in the Jags organization. WOW!

This is a big development if the reported interest is true. It would mean that General Manager Omar Khan is looking to make a ginormous splash that could change the direction of the franchise, for better or for worse. With all due respect to Burr, this isn't a report coming from Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport, but Burr is still a reputable voice in the sports world. He added what it might take for the Steelers and Khan to land Lawrence.
Steelers would deal this years #1 & #2, but with draft in Pittsburgh next year I would be very surprised if next years #1 is even on the table. https://t.co/g7VswZYwOn

This would mean that Pittsburgh is willing to give up some serious draft capital to land Lawrence, and it would be interesting to see if someone like Christian Kirk could also be included in a potential deal.

There is no doubt that the Steelers need a franchise-caliber quarterback, but it would be very surprising to make a massive move for a guy like Lawrence instead of giving Fields a low-risk, high-reward contract after he began the 2024 campaign 4-2 before Wilson stepped in. Overall, the potential of someone with Lawrence's pedigree wearing the black and gold is an attractive narrative, especially if the young signal-caller simply needs a change of atmosphere to turn his career around.
Burr also added that Khan could simply be doing his due diligence because of the current state of the quarterback position in the Steel City. It doesn't necessarily mean that the Jacksonville Jaguars are interested.
For the record, isn’t it Omar’s job to check the tires with every team in the @nfl? https://t.co/g7VswZYwOn

There has been a big regime change for the Jaguars after the firing of Doug Pederson. On top of that, the organization still does not have a general manager for Khan to be negotiating with. Without a doubt, though, this report is one of the biggest bombshells of the 2025 offseason to this point. Albeit, the Super Bowl just commenced less than a week ago. Regardless, it's a shocking report to see on social media. Khan could be planning for a jaw-dropping move, or multiple.

Steelers Will Be Involved In Countless Rumors Throughout The 2025 Offseason
Whether this report by Burr is validated or not, it is foreshadowing what is to come for fans in Pittsburgh. When there is controversy at both the quarterback and wide receiver positions entering an offseason, the news cycle is going to be all over whatever team is having those issues. The organization's alleged interest in Lawrence, however, is the biggest potential storyline at this stage of the NFL offseason altogether.
