Steelers' Mike Tomlin Would "Shut Up" All Frustrated Fans If He Leads Aaron Rodgers To The Playoffs In 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still on a quest to find their starting quarterback for 2025, but who Mike Tomlin wants under center might not please many fans. With concerning signs that the Steelers may not be able to reach on a new deal with Justin Fields, the most likely two options following him are Russell Wilson, who closed out the Steelers' season with five straight losses, or Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers was released by the New York Jets after only two seasons, and many assume Tomlin has interest to some degree.

Including their matchup in Super Bowl XLV, Tomlin and Rodgers have crossed paths on many occasions over the years, and Tomlin has always admired Rodgers' abilities. The two most recently met when the Steelers took down the Jets on Sunday Night Football in Pittsburgh, which was Wilson's first start of the 2024 regular season.

As much as many fans would hate to see, Rodgers signing with the Steelers is a real possibility, depending on the organization's decision with Fields and Wilson. Although Tomlin and the Steelers might be comfortable with Rodgers running the offense, other fans around the AFC North will be getting their popcorn ready in hopes of an utter disaster.

Nick Wilson and Spencer German, co-hosts for Cleveland's Afternoon Drive on 92.3 The Fan, recently discussed the hypothetical of a Tomlin and Rodgers pairing in Pittsburgh.

"We don't need [Aaron Rodgers] here. The Browns are probably gonna be bad next year. Let's just face the facts," German said to Wilson. "It would be my entertainment next year to like, sit down with a bowl of popcorn and watch how the Steelers sabotage themselves from within if they bring in Rodgers."

Wilson quickly argued that Tomlin and the Steelers simply cannot be sabotaged, saying that every player that enters the organization is problematic, but the team is able to overcome those issues. The two mentioned George Pickens and some of the drama he has stirred over the last few years.

"If I'm a Steelers fan that wants Mike Tomlin out, this is the perfect way to find out. If Mike Tomlin can get Aaron Rodgers and still get to the playoffs and avoid all of the drama, all Steelers fans that want him gone have to shut up," German continued. "If even he gets sabotaged by Aaron Rodgers, now he has to give his job up. It's like the perfect way to end that era."

Given Mike Tomlin's track record, reaching the playoffs with Rodgers under center is very doable, but they likely wouldn't find any legitimate success. It would be an intriguing test for Tomlin as a coach, to see how he'd manage a quarterback like Rodgers. German is correct in stating that Tomlin's head coach position would be in full jeopardy if the team brought in Rodgers and whiffed.

It's ironic hearing Cleveland fans hoping the Steelers continue to struggle finding a solution at quarterback, considering they themselves don't even have a quarterback lined up for 2025. If the Steelers do reach a new contract with either Fields or Wilson, the number of teams still in need of a new quarterback will be limited, and that includes the Browns. Rodgers could very well end up in the AFC North, but he might not be playing for the black and gold.

Steelers Have Tough Competition For Fields Ahead Of Free Agency

Reports say that the Jets and Steelers are the two most likely destinations for Fields this offseason. Where Fields wants to truly play in 2025 will eventually be revealed, but for now, the Steelers are forced to consider all options.

Luckily, Fields' market value isn't too high and the Steelers should have the chance to give him his best offer. If Fields ends up going in a different direction other than Pittburgh, the Steelers won't have a bright future at quarterback, especially if they don't hit on a passer in the draft.

What do you think about the idea of Rodgers in a Steelers uniform in 2025? Would Tomlin be able to handle the pressure that comes with Rodgers' presence, or would it begin the end of his time as the Steelers' coach? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
