The majority of the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 offseason has been surrounded by headlines about the quarterback position. Some of the drama that the Aaron Rodgers saga has brought to the Steel City has made many quickly forget about the acquisition of wide receiver DK Metcalf. The offense is now set up to potentially be formidable, especially if George Pickens is in the black and gold for the final year of his rookie deal. General Manager Omar Khan was vocal about how important it is to have dynamic pass-catchers, and his recent comments may go deeper than some may think regarding the wide receiving corps.

The Steelers may have one of the best pass-catching duos in the entire NFL after the trade for Metcalf, as both he and Pickens are incredibly talented players that have the ability to break open a game at any time. Many looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft had the organization taking a wideout rather early, but that reality may not be anywhere close to coming to fruition, especially after the Metcalf acquisition.
Khan spoke with members of the media during the annual NFL League Meeting on Monday, and answered plenty of questions about the state of the roster. He specifically took notice to four of the pass-catchers on the roster, which could lead one to believe that the position isn't really being looked at as one that needs to be seriously upgraded anytime soon.
Steelers GM Omar Khan on what the acquisition of DK Metcalf means for the team's WR room: "No, we need more than one receiver in this league, and we're fortunate to have George (Pickens) and Calvin (Austin) and we're excited about what Roman (Wilson) is going to be."

Metcalf and Pickens will be the top targets in the 2025 offense, but Calvin Austin III made a name for himself in 2024, having a couple of break-out games. Roman Wilson was a draft selection a year ago that basically never saw the field, but it seems as if Khan is confident that the two can complement Metcalf and Pickens in a positive way.

The Steelers gave up a second-round pick for Metcalf, which is not a big deal if one looks at the circumstances. Instead of drafting a wideout in round two, Pittsburgh acquired a dynamic play-maker and guaranteed that he would play in the Steel City for years to come. No one can be certain that selecting a player at the position in the second round would have led to a better situation than the one that Khan has currently created.
Things may change next year if Pickens walks in free agency, but it's quite clear that the team's decision-makers are content with how the room looks currently. It would be rather shocking (unless a blockbuster trade occurs with Pickens involved) if Khan decides to draft a wide receiver within the first three or four rounds come late April.
The unit is set up for success in 2025, and the general manager's comments on Monday highlight the fact that the Steelers' brass is comfortable with the current make-up of the room.

Steelers Now Have More Pressing Needs Other Than From Wide Receiver
The defensive line for Pittsburgh needs to be addressed and it's likely that the organization uses its first round pick on the position. Quarterback is another long-term problem that needs to be addressed, but the fan base should expect Khan to target a big run-stuffer with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though the the team does not have a second-round pick, acquiring Metcalf absolutely makes the lack of one worth it. The Steelers have a true one-two punch.
