The Pittsburgh Steelers have captured the attention of people across the league with some big moves this offseason. From surprising departures to key acquisitions, the team’s moves have certainly turned heads. However, as the roster continues to take shape, certain position groups that remain intact are also drawing increasing focus from insiders and analysts, who are closely watching how these units will contribute to the team’s overall success moving forward.

One of the key position groups under fire is the Steelers’ offensive line. Recently, the line has struggled and has often been ranked in the lower tiers in the league. However, during a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly offered a more optimistic outlook as well as highlighted the potential and talent within the offensive line. Still, Kaboly made it clear that the overall success of the Steelers' roster in the upcoming season will heavily depend on the performance of the line.
"There's a ton of talent here and things can go south in a hurry with this entire team if the offensive line does not gel together," Kaboly shared.
One of the primary concerns surrounding the Steelers' offensive line is their ability to consistently protect the quarterback. In previous seasons, this unit has faced challenges with pass protection, especially from the tackle position, which often limited the offense’s ability to fully execute its offensive scheme. Now, with 41-year-old veteran Aaron Rodgers set to lead the offense, protecting the quarterback becomes even more critical.

At this stage in his career, Rodgers needs a strong and reliable offensive line in front of him to give him the time and space required to make plays. Without adequate protection, not only does the risk of injury increase, but the offense as a whole may struggle to find its rhythm. Simply put, if the line can't hold up, Rodgers won't be able to create the opportunities for success that he’s known for.
The offensive line plays a much bigger role than just protecting the quarterback too. When they create time and space, it helps the entire offense, opening up the run game, keeping the passing game in rhythm, and allowing plays to develop smoothly. In many ways, the success of the new players the Steelers have added could depend on how well the offensive line holds up this season.
Overall, the Steelers’ offensive line is relatively young, made up of several recent draft picks brought in to strengthen the unit over the past few seasons. While there’s clear talent and potential, one of the biggest concerns has been the issue of injuries. These setbacks have often forced these young players to step into roles or positions they may not be entirely familiar or comfortable with, requiring a level of flexibility that can be difficult early in a career.
However, if the line can remain healthy throughout the season, the unit could make significant progress. Simply having consistent player availability and the opportunity to gain more real game experience could lead to a major leap in performance. Additionally, with offseason programs already underway, these players now have the opportunity to practice, build chemistry, and develop a better understanding of how to work together as a unit for the upcoming season.

The Steelers Are Building Long-Term
Because the offensive line is still relatively young, there’s growing optimism that if this group can stay healthy and build chemistry throughout the season, it could have a long-lasting impact on the Steelers’ future success. Despite some struggles in recent years, the potential is clearly there. If they can come together and perform consistently, it could become a key part for the team for years to come.
We’re already seeing a typically beneficial strategy happen on the defensive line, where the Steelers are blending new talent with young rookies to build a strong foundation. If the offensive line follows the same path, these current players could eventually become mentors for the next group of talent. However, before they can guide others, they need to gain valuable experience themselves, experience that can only come through time playing together.
