The Pittsburgh Steelers have made several major moves this offseason, each of which has sparked a wide range of opinions from people. The Steelers’ front office has been aggressive in securing both short-term impact players and long-term foundational pieces. In the process, they’ve almost completely transformed the overall makeup of the roster. Despite the mixed public response, the organization continues to push forward with bold decisions, showing their commitment to building a competitive team, regardless of outside opinions.

However, during a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly took a moment to specifically praise General Manager Omar Khan for how he’s been managing the team’s recent moves. While it’s already been reported that Khan maintains a “very open-minded” approach when it comes to evaluating available talent, Kaboly highlighted Khan’s strategic mindset in identifying and pursuing players who could make a real impact on the team.
"That's something Omar [Khan] has been extremely diligent in doing recently, since he's got here. He hasn't been attached to anybody," Kaboly said. If it doesn't work this year, you know what, we'll do it again next year with somebody else, and he just keeps doing it and doing it until you find that mix of the right people."
Earlier this offseason, the Steelers' front office, especially Khan, faced significant scrutiny for how they were handling the situation with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. For months, it seemed like the Steelers were in a waiting game, just waiting for Rodgers to decide whether or not he wanted to join the team. Rodgers ultimately signed just a one-year deal, which supports Kaboly’s recent praise of Khan’s ability to remain unattached. Rather than forcing a long-term commitment, Khan approached the situation with patience and flexibility, showing a willingness to make huge moves without overcommitting.

Most recently, the Steelers pulled off a blockbuster trade that sent star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back to the Miami Dolphins, while cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith came to Pittsburgh in return. Reports suggest that although the Steelers weren't actively looking to shop Fitzpatrick, he ultimately became the key piece needed to bring Ramsey to the Steelers and the decision was reportedly driven by the thought that Fitzpatrick no longer fit in with the team’s long-term vision. This trade further reinforces Kaboly’s point about Khan's low attachment approach, showing his willingness to make tough moves if it means strengthening the team’s overall future.
There has been some concern surrounding the Steelers' recent additions, stemming from a couple of key factors. One of the main fears relates to the age of some of the incoming players, with some fans questioning how much they have left in the tank. However, echoing Kaboly’s earlier observation, Khan seems to be approaching these signings with a mindset of low attachment, bringing in experienced players without tying the team to long-term commitments.
Another concern involves how these new additions will fit into the current scheme. However, part of the value in these acquisitions lies in their versatility. For example, Smith is expected to be used as a receiving threat, yet he also brings the skill set of a traditional tight end, allowing for more dynamic offensive options. Additionally, these moves add to the team’s overall depth, an important thing when it comes to managing injuries, creating player development, and ensuring long-term roster stability.

The Steelers Are Balancing Present Day Competitiveness With Long-Term Stability
Khan and the Steelers organization are attempting the nearly impossible task of balancing present day competitiveness with long-term stability. This is where the idea of keeping a low attachment becomes especially beneficial. The roster, on paper, appears to be significantly better compared to last season, but its true effectiveness won’t be fully shown until the regular season gets started.
