The Pittsburgh Steelers were expected to possibly trade George Pickens on the night of, or before, the 2025 NFL Draft. When nothing came to fruition, many believed that the wide receiver would play in the Steel City for at least one more season. Then, out of nowhere in May, General Manager Omar Khan sent the pass-catcher to the Dallas Cowboys in a move that had the entire league buzzing. This deal has had many arguing about which team actually won the trade, but only time will able to tell the real winner. If Pickens has a breakout 2025 campaign, it won't sit well in Pittsburgh.

Fans in the Steel City know that Pickens had a lot of negative attention on himself for comments during media sessions and actions on the field. There were several instances throughout his first three professional seasons that lined up with what scouts thought about him coming out of college. He is as talented as a receiver can be, but often gets in his own way with comments and outbursts.
His new quarterback, Dak Prescott, will be the best one he has had throughout his career. Coming off of a brutal season-ending hamstring injury, the quarterback now has two dominant weapons at his disposal in Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. The main worry in Dallas may be that Pickens could be upset if he is not targeted in games enough. Recently, speaking to the media, Prescott wanted everyone to know that the wideout absolutely loves the game of football.
"That knowledge, that involvement, it shows you a guy that loves football and that, to me, delegates a lot of the things you heard in the past about him," Prescott said. "Great dude, loves his teammates and is excited as he** for this season. I know he is and I know he's happy to be in a fresh new spot and excited for what he's going to do for us."
This certainly paints Pickens is a good light. Any player that gets a fresh start and has another opportunity to prove that he is one of the game's best would have everyone around excited. Prescott highlighted that things that have been said about Pickens in the past about his football abilities are accurate, which is exactly what a quarterback should be saying about his new offensive weapon.

Prescott continued lauding Pickens when speaking with the media on Tuesday, emphasizing his talents and ability to catch the ball in any situation. Steelers fans know exactly how incredible the wide receiver can be when given the chance to make a play.
"Go turn on that guy's tape," Prescott said. "He's getting separation. He's got separation even when he's not getting the ball at times, and when he doesn't have separation, he's still making the catches. It's not going to be hard."
Everyone who watches football is aware, however, that Pickens is extremely talented. It has been other actions and comments that have gotten him in trouble in the past. It's evident that Prescott believes all of that negative media attention is too drastic, but it still remains to be seen if any outbursts will come from the pass-catcher during the 2025 season. He wasn't exactly the best teammate in Pittsburgh, despite what Prescott currently believes.
Fans of the Steelers seemed split about the decision to move on from Pickens, but there was clearly a desire in Pittsburgh's building to move on from him. With Prescott's new words, though, some of the black and gold faithful may wonder if it wasn't the receiver that was the problem; instead, possibly the environment that he was drafted into.

Steelers Better Hope That 2025 Offseason Moves Work Out
The decision was made to trade Pickens, and that cannot be undone. Overall, the deal could help both Pittsburgh and Dallas, but Khan and co. need to hope that the plethora of aggressive deals made throughout the 2025 offseason end up benefiting the organization. It is clear that Prescott truly believes that the Cowboys got the better end of the trade.
