The Pittsburgh Steelers have not been able to stay out of the sports news cycle throughout the 2025 offseason. Major changes have been made to the roster, with General Manager Omar Khan really focusing on revamping a team that needed to have a plethora of changes. Many are excited to see how the new faces in the locker room contribute, but the group as a whole still isn't perfect. A lot of conversation has focused on the need for another wide receiver, but with players reporting for training camp beginning on Wednesday, there will be a couple of other areas to keep an eye on.

While the skill players on offense will receive a ton of attention throughout training camp and the preseason, the most important positional group on the team may be Pat Meyer's offensive line. With a veteran quarterback in Aaron Rodgers under center, it will be critical to keep him upright. The offense will only be able to have a successful campaign if the big men up front are effective from the very beginning of the season.
There are no questions about the starting five, which is set to be Broderick Jones, Isaac Seumalo, Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu. The one uncertain aspect of every individual season in the NFL, however, is that injuries arise. They happen to be very common on the offensive line, and that could be problematic for the Steelers.
Team reporters Ray Fittipaldo and Brian Batko discussed this on a recent episode of Chipped Ham & Football, and while there is confidence regarding the top five guys, the depth overall could be a big-time issue.
"Are the backups good enough," Batko asked. "We know the starting five. There are fewer questions about the Steelers' offensive line than there have been, maybe in my entire time covering the team since 2019."
Fittipaldo went on to answer Batko's original question with extreme hesitation. He is very concerned with the group that is behind the starters, but all that matters is what the coaching staff thinks.
"I'm not convinced, Brian," Fittipaldo said. "But, it seems like the Steelers are convinced."
The last comment from Fittipaldo is interesting considering that being content with a questionable positional group could cause severe issues if an injury or two pops up. Meyer is likely on the hot seat given the performance that his guys have put forth in recent seasons, so the organization surely is taking a gamble when it comes to the backups on the depth chart.

Another concern with the offensive line depth is that the free agent pool is not large as it stands entering training camp, and it will be even tougher to bring someone in to contribute in the middle of the season. The Steelers' offense will only have the opportunity to play at a high level if the big men up front are consistent and able to dominate the trenches. It's definitely worrisome that one hypothetical injury could derail that plan.
Pittsburgh's front office has had a goal of controlling the line of scrimmage in recent seasons, but it hasn't exactly gone according to plan. It will be one of the most important elements of the franchise's play-style in 2025, so there is no room for error, and the depth has reporters such as Fittipaldo highlighting a potential red flag once the regular season kicks off.

Steelers Need A Massive Season From 2023 Draft Pick
Jones is arguably the most important player on the offensive line, with him finally having the ability to play his natural position of left tackle. This could be the biggest change for the offense in 2025, and his play will determine whether or not the franchise picks up his fifth-year option for 2027. He will have the imperative job of protecting Rodgers' blindside.
