The Pittsburgh Steelers made it very clear that changes needed to be made after losing in the Wild Card Round once again at the end of the 2024 season. The roster was significantly revamped by General Manager Omar Khan, and that has led to several new faces in the locker room. The quarterback position is the most important in all of sports, so the team went out and mixed that room up a great deal. Many wanted to see Justin Fields be re-signed, but his price was higher than the organization wanted to pay, so the former first-round pick ended up with the New York Jets.

With all 32 teams in the league having training camp underway, a lot of eyes will be on Fields and how he handles the pressure in New York. He put pen to paper on a two-year, $40 million deal, so he has a very small window to prove that he can be a long-term franchise quarterback at the professional level. Unfortunately, his 2025 season has not gotten started the right way.
According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the signal-caller suffered some kind of lower body injury during the Jets' practice on Thursday, which is already causing some concern.

Any injury to a starting quarterback will lead a fan base to become worried, but Fields wasn't just being looked at by a trainer. He ended up being carted to the locker room, which is never a great sign.

This will be something to keep a close eye on. No one wants to see anyone get hurt this early in training camp, but it's especially worrisome when it's a starting quarterback. The former Steelers backup had his sights set on proving that he can be a full-time starter, but depending on what the diagnosis is, New York could be in a bit of trouble.

Even if the injury is relatively minor, the fact that it is something having to do with the lower body is unfortunate due to the fact that Fields often uses his legs to make plays on offense. Regardless of if it is a soft tissue injury or not, the Jets may have to work him back extremely slow if he is sidelined for multiple weeks because of this reported ailment. This could potentially end up being the absolute worst case scenario for the Jets, and the preseason hasn't even started yet.
Fans will wait to get more information before coming to any conclusions, but there should be an update at some point, whether it be from Head Coach Aaron Glenn, or a reporter on the ground such as Rosenblatt. Fields was already turning some heads in New York due to his leadership and style of play, so this is a significant development even though it is still the month of July.

Steelers Have Their Own Quarterback Questions To Get Answered
While Aaron Rodgers will be under center for the 2025 season, Pittsburgh has no clear long-term plan at the position. Fields could have been an option, but it's evident that the team's decision-makers did not believe that he could be the franchise's answer for the foreseeable future. Now, the organization's brass watch from afar and wish Fields the best as he deals with an apparent lower body injury early on in the Jets' training camp.
