Steelers' Offense Causes Immense Worry After Brutal Seven Shots Performance

The Pittsburgh Steelers are over a week into training camp ahead of the 2025 season, and the fan base has some worries about the offense. This has become normal behavior surrounding the Steelers, as the unit has been worrisome over the last several seasons. The group has been inconsistent and gotten off to slow starts, which has lost the Steelers a fair amount of games. Fans were hoping things would be different heading into the 2025 season with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, but so far in camp, things seem to be the same.

Pittsburgh typically works in to every practice a team period called "Seven Shots". The drill consists of the offense going against the defense from the two-yard line, and one side of the ball will win the drill.

There is no doubt that the Steelers are a lopsided team when it comes to comparing the offense and the defense. The organization has rostered the highest-paid defense in the NFL for the last four seasons, and that usually shows when the two sides go against one another. However, that does not change how concerning it is when the offense gets manhandled in practice.

On Sunday, the Steelers started practice off with Seven Shots, and the coaching staff then decided to end the day with Seven Shots. Offense lost the first time around 6-1, and the group lost by the same score again at the end of the day. The lack of improvement is concerning, but it is also important to remember that it takes an offense longer to get into the swing of things when training camp gets underway.

Fans wish to see the offense be successful right off the bat, but that is just not realistic in practice scenarios for Pittsburgh. The personnel has changed a ton throughout the 2025 offseason, and the offensive line is still a work in progress

Rodgers is till working on his connection with his wide receivers, mainly DK Metcalf, and the entire left side of the line is bouncing back from soft tissue injuries. Improvement should be expected in the coming weeks, but if this trend continues towards the end of August, it may be worth getting riled up about.

Rodgers, Metcalf, and every other new piece is also getting used to playing for Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith. It is a hard offense to learn, and it is going to take time to get things down smoothly. Progress should be seen in the next couple of weeks from the offense, especially as preseason games get underway.

Steelers Would Be More Concerned If The Results Were Flipped

Things could be worse for the Steelers. The organization is built on its defense, so if the offense came out this early in camp and was able to take advantage of the defense, it would be a problem. This is especially true when considering the amount of star power on that side of the ball for the Steelers, and the amount of resources that have been invested in the unit.

As a team, the Steelers are built for the offense to be able to manage games, while keeping the defense out of difficult situations. This includes minimal turnovers and winning the field position battle, if Pittsburgh is able to do that consistently, then the team is set up for success in 2025.
