The Pittsburgh Steelers are always tinkering with the roster as training camp moves along, and there was proof of that on Thursday as the organization signed quarterback Logan Woodside, as well as offensive lineman Andrus Peat. Neither player should be expected to contribute heavily for Pittsburgh during the 2025 season, but Peat provides an interesting amount of experience and pedigree to the big men upfront. He is embarking on his 11th season in the NFL, and he should be considered a reliable depth option for the Steelers if he is able to make the final 53-man roster.

Peat has had a very good NFL career as he has been named a Pro Bowler three times after the New Orleans Saints selected him with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent the majority of his career with the Saints, but was with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He has mostly played guard on the left side of the line during his professional career, but he has also logged significant time as a tackle. This is the versatility that Pittsburgh typically looks for, and the new addition spoke to the media after practice on Thursday.
"You know, played there [on the left], my whole career," Peat said. "But I feel like, if I needed to, I could play over there, on the right."
The veteran saying this essentially means he believes he has what it takes to be able to play every position on the offensive line, likely aside from center. He has played both guard and tackle on the left side of the line throughout his professional career, but if the organization needed him to switch to the right side, he would be able to play guard or tackle over there as well.

Peat's versatility and experience is especially important for the Steelers as the offensive line in Pittsburgh is fairly young. Aside from left guard, every position is being played by someone in their first three years in the league. Peat will be able to be a veteran presence in the locker room while also having the ability to fill in behind any of the younger players.
His experience at tackle is mainly interesting because of what the Steelers currently have at right and left tackle. Broderick Jones has had a rough start to his career, and he has been struggling at left tackle so far in training camp. If Jones' play does not improve, Peat could be a player to watch when it comes to left tackle in Pittsburgh. Troy Fautanu is expected to be solid at right tackle, but he has had some injury concerns so far in his career. He missed nearly all of his rookie year in 2024, and if something like that comes up again, Peat could be in consideration to take his spot.

Steelers Are Relying Heavily On The Offensive Line In 2025
The Steelers' offense has had a lot of change throughout the 2025 season, but the offensive line is full of players that have been in Pittsburgh. The group is being relied upon to take a major step forward during the season, and the offense is only going to be able to play as well as the big guys do. This is especially important as the team is preparing to start 41-year old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has lost a good amount of mobility since his early playing days. Keeping him protected is going to be the key to success for the Steelers, and a lot of young guys are being relied upon to make that happen.
