Steelers Have New WR2 Trade Option After Raiders Star Requests Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a team that has needed some help at wide receiver for the last two years. The organization switched things up at the position during the 2025 offseason as the team brought in DK Metcalf via trade, while also parting ways with George Pickens -- but the depth in the room is still up in the air. The fan base would feel more comfortable with a more reliable option behind Metcalf, however Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson have each looked good when they can stay healthy enough to be on the field.

It has been said that the Steelers want to add some help at wide receiver, and the organization is going to monitor all players at the position that could be available. The fan base was clamoring for the franchise to attempt to land Terry McLaurin from the Washington Commanders amidst his contract dispute, but he inked a fresh extension with Washington on Monday morning. The options at receiver are running out for the Steelers, but there could be a new name to keep tabs on as Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders has just requested a trade.

Meyers seems to want a new deal that reflects his value, but his team and the Raiders could not find an agreement. He has now requested to be dealt, although Las Vegas does not want to do that as the receiver is an important part of the offense. Meyers is coming off of the best season of his career in 2024 as he recorded over 1,000 yards and four touchdowns, which is a lot of production to potentially lose for the Raiders.

Meyers has been one of the more underrated wide receivers in the NFL for quite some time now. He has recorded 800 or more yards in each of the last four seasons while scoring 20 touchdowns in that time. He has also been able to produce like that with below-average quarterback play. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, but he only played his rookie season with Tom Brady. Over the last two years with Las Vegas, he has caught passes from Aidan O'Connell, Gardner Minshew, and Jimmy Garoppolo.

The veteran wide receiver is a good route runner with reliable hands, and he would be a good second wide receiver to have behind Metcalf. He is precise with his routes, which likely means he would be able to mesh well with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Meyers fits the mold of what Pittsburgh needs at the position, and an acquisition like this is one that needs to be considered by Pittsburgh.

Steelers Could Certainly Be Interested In Jakobi Meyers For The Right Price

Meyers signed a three-year, $33 million deal with Las Vegas back in 2023, and he is heading into the final year of his contract. He carries a cap hit of nearly $15 million for the 2025 season, and if he is traded, he is going to want an extension with whatever organization he lands with. The looming extension would hurt his value for the Raiders when it comes to trade compensation, so Pittsburgh could maybe package a pair of Day 3 picks to land the receiver. A fourth-round pick would certainly need to be involved, and probably something in the sixth round as well.
