The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to win their first game of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday, but the team came away from the contest with some injuries. DeShon Elliott is expected to miss some time with a sprained MCL, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering many fans thought his injury was going to be much worse when he initially went down in the game against the New York Jets. The Elliott injury was not good considering the lack of depth and talent at safety, but Pittsburgh quickly made amends as the organization signed Jabrill Peppers.

It became known that Pittsburgh was signing Peppers on Tuesday, but the franchise made some more roster moves. Some other players were moved onto Injured Reserve, which led to Pittsburgh elevating some players from the practice squad. Players that are now on the active roster include James Pierre, while Skylar Thompson and Malik Harrison were both moved to the Injured Reserve.

Harrison was hurt in the game against New York, but it is unclear when Thompson went down with an injury. Both players are out a minimum of four games after this move, and Pierre being added to the active roster doesn't necessarily bode well for Joey Porter Jr.

Thompson is the second Pittsburgh quarterback to hit the IR during the 2025 season. Will Howard broke his finger during training camp which landed him on short-term IR, and now Thompson joins him. Thompson's injury is likely somewhat serious for him to be out for four weeks. Logan Woodside is now going to take over the role of the emergency quarterback after being signed to the practice squad.

Pierre will be able to make an immediate contribution on special teams, and he can fill in at cornerback if needed. Pittsburgh saw Porter go down in Week 1, so it is good to have additional depth at the position moving forward, especially while Cory Trice Jr. is also out.

None of Pittsburgh's roster moves should make too much of a difference in the near future, but it is interesting to look at the quarterback position and see multiple players go down already, not even two weeks into the year.
