Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Sends Strong Message To Locker Room After Embarrassing Home Loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered their first loss of the 2025 season on Sunday at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 31-17. Not many things went right for the Steelers, especially on the offensive end. Pittsburgh only scored one touchdown on the day and were outscored 24-3 in the second half. As bad as things may have appeared, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is trying to keep his team composed following the embarrassing loss at Acrisure Stadium.

During his postgame press conference, Rodgers fought back any sort of negative ideas, claiming Sunday's loss against the Seahawks could be beneficial for the team.

"It's good for us," Rodgers said.

In his 21st season in the NFL, Rodgers has dealt with his fair share of embarrassing losses, and this response goes to show his maturity and experience in the league. This is one of the main reasons why Pittsburgh wanted to bring in Rodgers, not only to see if he can still play at a high level, but to have his leadership in the locker room as well.

It might seem easy for Steelers fans to panic following Sunday's loss, and it would be easy for any quarterback to panic following a performance like we saw on Sunday, but Rodgers understands that it is an 18-week season, and although the Steelers have a lot to improve on, there isn't any need to panic.

"It's Week 2, come on now," Rodgers said when asked if things were starting to get frustrating.

Perhaps a majority of the frustration coming from Steelers fans is in part to the fact of how good the offense looked in its Week 1 win against the New York Jets. It appeared the offense was clicking on all cylinders, and yet, it looked like a completely different team on the field against the Seahawks. The Steelers only mustered 267 total yards of offense against Seattle, and Rodgers threw two interceptions while throwing for only 203 yards.

A team can score 34 points one week, and then only 17 the week after. It's part of the league, or at least that's what Rodgers is telling his team.

"Last week, there were some people who were feeling pretty good because everybody outside of the building was talking about how great we were on offense and 34 points, but that's the league," Rodgers said. "You can't ride the highs or ride the lows, you got to refocus every single week and be a professional, and it starts with the practice and the preparation."

Rodgers is preaching patience, and he’s probably right. It’s far too early to hit the panic button, even with a loss as ugly as the one they experienced on Sunday. Rodgers is clearly trying to send the message that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and that it’s about how the team responds moving forward.

It also helps that Rodgers has been through this before. He’s had games where he’s thrown interceptions, where his offense has struggled, and where the critics started circling. But more often than not, his teams have bounced back. That’s the type of veteran leadership the Steelers were hoping for when they brought him in, and now it’s being put to the test.

Steelers Will Be Looking To Turn It Around In Week 3

The Steelers will hit the road in Week 3 to face the New England Patriots, who picked up their first win of the season on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The Steelers have not had good luck against the Patriots over the last 20 years, even since the departure of Tom Brady in 2020. Pittsburgh has lost seven of its last eight games against the Patriots, and the organization has not won in Gillette Stadium since 2008.
