Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth up to just under $20 million this offseason. The veteran quarterback is a four-time MVP, future first ballot Hall of Famer, and is widely considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game of football. Speculation continued to surround the veteran throughout his entire free agency process in 2025, as rumors were constantly circulating around the NFL world regarding where he would sign throughout the entire offseason.

Rodgers has had a shaky start to the 2025 campaign after officially joining the Steelers. The legendary quarterback was nothing short of elite in Week 1 against the New York Jets, but Rodgers has struggled since the matchup against his former team and has been very underwhelming over the past two weeks. The veteran took a moment to speak with the media earlier on Wednesday, and was able to reveal an inside look as to how his free agency process looked before the regular season began.

Rodgers had constantly been linked to the Minnesota Vikings prior to signing with Pittsburgh, as Steelers insider Brooke Pryor was able to go in depth with Rodgers on the topic.

Rodgers to Minnesota would have certainly been an interesting move. He could have been an excellent mentor to Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy, as McCarthy is a promising young quarterback who could use the mentorship from a player of Rodgers' caliber.

"Never progressed beyond catch-up conversations," Pryor quoted Rodgers in her social media post when referring to speaking with Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell.

Rodgers could have also likely developed a great connection with generational wide receiver Justin Jefferson as well, but the veteran quarterback reiterated that contract talks with Minnesota never truly went anywhere.

The Vikings seemed to have never truly been in on Rodgers, despite a number of rumors throughout the offseason, as the legendary quarterback claims there were never any true contract discussions being held in the first place (outside of catching up with Head Coach Kevin O'Connell who Rodgers considers a friend as mentioned).

Steelers Set To Take On Vikings In Ireland For Week 4

Despite the drama in the offseason, the Steelers and the Vikings will battle in Dublin on Sunday in an international game overseas. This will be the first time the Steelers have played abroad since 2013 where they faced off against the Vikings out in London as well. This time around, Carson Wentz will be under center for Minnesota as the team's young starting quarterback JJ McCarthy is currently out with an ankle injury.

Whether the Vikings were ever seriously interested in Rodgers or not is up for debate, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback is 2-1 with the Steelers currently, nonetheless. He'll look to get his offense back on track against a Vikings defense that was dominant in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincy is currently having QB troubles of their own, but the Vikings' defense is nothing to sleep on, regardless. This contest will be a great opportunity for both organizations to keep their momentum, establish more consistency, and ultimately improve to 3-1.

Did you think the Vikings ever truly had a legitimate shot at signing Rodgers over the offseason? If he had, what do you think the Steelers' backup plan at quarterback would have been? Be sure to comment below or engage with us on our social media platforms!
