The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in Dublin, Ireland by a final score of 24-21. Although the Steelers nearly blew an 18-point lead, it was a huge win to improve their record to 3-1 heading into the bye week. One of the biggest stars from Sunday's win was wide receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf caught five passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. Metcalf had shown some promising glimpses in the first three games, but he proved on Sunday that he was worth his five-year, $150 million contract.

Arguably the biggest play of the day for the Steelers came with 12:20 to go in the 2nd quarter, when Aaron Rodgers hit Metcalf for an 80-yard catch-and-run touchdown. Metcalf hauled in a bullet from Rodgers over the middle, and let his speed do the rest. A key block from Calvin Austin allowed Metcalf to scamper into the end zone, extending the Steelers' lead to 14-3 at the time. It's a play like that one that can give Steelers fans reassurance that their team has a true game-breaking receiver. For Metcalf himself, it was a statement.

While speaking to the media following the win, Metcalf explained what that play meant for him.

"Today felt like, 'I'm home now, I'm here,'" said Metcalf.

Sunday was without a doubt Metcalf's best game as a Steeler, and it came during what was also the offense's most complete performance of the 2025 season. However, it wasn’t just Metcalf carrying the offense. The Steelers established a strong running game, piling up 131 rushing yards. That balance kept Minnesota’s defense honest, allowing Rodgers to mix in play-action. With the ground attack moving the chains consistently, Pittsburgh’s passing game was able to find rhythm, something that had been missing in earlier weeks.

Metcalf of course couldn't take all the credit for his big play, giving props to the guys blocking for him.

"Nothing happens without the O-Line blocking," said Metcalf. "CA [Calvin Austin] really popped a couple of those for me, giving me space to really work. Shout-out to everybody that was involved in this win."

Metcalf's speed and contested catch ability are two of the main reasons why he has been one of the top wide receivers in the league since he was drafted in 2019 out of Ole Miss, and also why the Steelers traded a second-round pick for him in March. Through the first three games, Metcalf had shown flashes of what he could do, but there was a feeling that he hadn’t fully settled in yet. That changed against Minnesota. Not only did he put up big numbers, but he also made the kind of play that energizes an entire team and fan base.

Metcalf had two receiving touchdowns on the year coming into Sunday's game, but his performance against Minnesota most certainly felt like his coming out party. The Steelers' offense was looking for a spark, and Metcalf gave them just that. For Metcalf, it was more than just a big-play touchdown, it was about finding his place on this team. Sometimes it takes a big moment like that to feel like you belong, and Sunday might have been that turning point for him. Some Steelers fans might've been questioning the front office's decision to trade for Metcalf, and eventually trade away George Pickens. A performance like the one he had on Sunday can prove to Steelers fans that he is indeed one of the biggest playmakers in the NFL.

Steelers Need To Continue To Get Metcalf Involved On Offense

It's clear that one thing is for certain, the Steelers' offense is better when Metcalf is involved. In their Week 1 win over the New York Jets, Metcalf caught four passes for 83 yards. Although he did catch touchdowns in both Week 2 and Week 3, Metcalf had a combined six receptions for 52 yards in those two games, and the Steelers' offense struggled in those two games. If the Steelers can continue to feed Metcalf and allow him to use his game-changing playmaking abilities, their offense can be one of the more difficult to stop in the league.
