The Pittsburgh Steelers have been pushed by the fan base to make a big move to acquire wide receiver help for the last several seasons. Wide receiver moves were made during the 2025 offseason as Pittsburgh brought in DK Metcalf and traded away George Pickens, but that put Pittsburgh in a similar spot as the team still does not have a high-level second wide receiver. The NFL's trade deadline is quickly approaching as it arrives on November 4th, and Pittsburgh is going to be talked about to acquire a receiver until a move happens or the deadline passes.

The NFL world is approaching the time of year where teams that are underperforming or see themselves at the bottom of the standings might consider getting active in the trade market. This means moving on from some top talent in order to bring in draft compensation to ignite a potential rebuild. On the opposite side of that, teams who look like they could go on a run will look to find the missing pieces they need. For Pittsburgh, this might be at wide receiver, and team insider Ray Fittipaldo was asked about the likelihood of a trade getting done during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Friday.
"It's going to be interesting," Fittipaldo said. "I do think they want to see how these guys do. You know, if Scotty [Miller], [Ben] Skowronek, and Roman Wilson, if they can contribute to a winning effort, you know, they go out there and make some plays, they'll be happy with what they got. The deadline is a month away, we all know Omar Khan hasn't been shy when it comes to making deals since he took over. I'm sure he's looking for ways to improve this football team. But I also know he doesn't want to trade away a lot of draft picks. If they do anything, maybe a mid to low-round pick, maybe a player-for-player deal."
Khan has said in the past that he will always make calls and inquire around the league if he believes there could be something done to improve the team. This will likely take place more often as the trade deadline approaches, especially if players cannot step up in the wide receiver room.

One place to look for a wide receiver might be the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans currently sits at 1-4, and is clearly rebuilding under a new head coach. Both Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed could be interesting options for Pittsburgh, with Shaheed being less expensive, although he is in the final year of his deal. It has been reported that the Steelers have already shown some interest in Shaheed.
There are some other franchises that could turn into sellers as the deadline approaches. The Las Vegas Raiders are 1-4 and their number one wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested a trade prior to the season, however he would need a new deal as well.
Steelers Could Look To Trade A Player
Pittsburgh wants to hold on to as much of its draft capital as possible as the organization is desperate for a franchise quarterback. This could mean using a bunch of assets to trade up in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which would require a lot of picks. Therefore, the organization may opt to trade a player to acquire some more talent at the deadline. A couple players who may garner some decent value include Pat Freiermuth and Alex Highsmith. Trading either player should bring in a decent player in return while clearing some cash off of the books.

Fans have questioned Freiermuth's usage in 2025, and whether or not it makes him expendable. A lot of people want to see him as a Steeler for life, but that might not be realistic anymore.
