Steelers' Jalen Ramsey Exposed Questionable Officiating Following Loss To The Bengals In Week 7

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a horrendous loss on Thursday night to the Cincinnati Bengals. The score was 33-31 in what was a pathetic showing from the defense. The offense at least looked good for the Steelers aside from two turnovers in the first half, but the group was able to move the ball at will while putting points up on the board. It was a game that will be looked back on later in the year as the Steelers could have really lengthened their lead in the AFC North by finding a way to come out victorious.

The offense was firing on all cylinders for Pittsburgh, and the main struggles came on the defensive side of the ball. Pittsburgh's defense struggled when it came to stopping the run, and the secondary also got destroyed and picked apart. It seemed like Joe Flacco knew exactly where every Pittsburgh defender was going to be and he had his first read on nearly every play. The Bengals also got helped out by some penalties that went against Pittsburgh's secondary, which is something Jalen Ramsey was asked about after the game.

"F**k the calls," Ramsey said. "Don't worry about that. We have to play better. Starting with myself, when the opportunity presents itself. It's part of the game. You have receivers that are superstars in the league, you know that they get away with sh*t like that. It is what it is. Next play, you gotta play the game. You got to execute when you get the opportunity to."

Ramsey and the rest of the secondary was in charge of trying to find a way to stop and slow down Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who are two of the best wide receivers in the NFL. There is also no doubt that they make up the best wide receiver duo in the league. Both made their mark on the game Thursday night, and Ramsey seems to believe that their status within the league led to them getting some of the penalty calls from the officiating crew.

Joey Porter Jr. was called for defensive pass interference twice while covering Higgins, and the second call was especially questionable as it looked like the cornerback just made a good play on the ball. Ramsey was called for two penalties as well while covering Chase. One of those penalties was a defensive pass interference call on a ball that Chase caught in the end zone for a score. It looked like Chase pushed off on Ramsey to create space to catch the ball, but the call went against the defense.

Chase clearly pushes off on Ramsey in order to give himself an advantage on the play, yet the call goes against the defensive back. The defense needs to find a way to play better, but there is no question that the Bengals were the beneficiaries of some questionable calls in their win over the Steelers.

Steelers Could See Joe Burrow Heal Much Quicker After Loss

The Bengals are trying to stay alive while quarterback Joe Burrow attempts to bounce back from his serious turf toe injury. He was initially said to be out until at least December, which is why Cincinnati needs to find a way to stay in the race for the division. The NFL could be wary of this and want to see Burrow back in action playing in some meaningful games late in the year, which could be a reason for some calls going certain ways. All speculative of course, but something to note.

There is no excuse for the way Pittsburgh played on Thursday, but some of the calls did seem to be slighted in a certain direction. Pittsburgh will look to bounce back at home against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.
