The Pittsburgh Steelers' Thursday night loss to the Cincinnati Bengals wasn’t really the fault of Aaron Rodgers or the offense. While Rodgers did throw two interceptions, only one was truly on him. The veteran quarterback otherwise played sharp, completing 68.6% of his passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns. Despite Pittsburgh’s 33-31 defeat, Rodgers gave the Steelers a real chance to win, leading a late scoring drive that briefly put them ahead in the fourth quarter.

Steelers' Broderick Jones and Aaron Rodgers celebrate after a big time score.

After Rodgers threw the go-ahead touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth, emotions were running high on the Steelers' sideline. Offensive tackle Broderick Jones, who has emerged as one of the most funny personalities on the team, could not hold back his excitement. As he celebrated with his 41-year-old quarterback, Jones took things a little too far, drawing an angry reaction from Rodgers in the heat of the moment. Cameras caught the exchange and the clip quickly went viral online, sparking laughter and debate among fans.

To his credit, Jones handled the viral moment with good humor afterward. Speaking to Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the young lineman laughed off the situation and even hinted he may just do it again if it meant keeping the energy high. The lighthearted response showed Jones’ personality and his growing confidence as part of Pittsburgh’s offensive core. While the Steelers walked away with a frustrating loss, the chemistry between Rodgers and his young linemen, fiery moments included, could be exactly what fuels their fight moving forward.

"We are still joking about it," Jones told the Pittsburgh media on Monday. "Yeah, he was a little mad, but it's alright, it's just football. It does get intense. But you know there is no love lost. It's just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me not to lose that fire and I told him the same thing. We shall see on Sunday after he throws another touchdown, I may just tackle him again."

While it sounds like Jones is taking the viral moment with a good attitude, Steelers fans are hopeful they won’t see the 300-plus pound tackle tackling Rodgers anymore in the 2025 season.

Rodgers’ reaction did not draw much criticism from fans or football observers around the world. Sure, there are always some fans who look for any opportunity to pile on Rodgers, but his response in this moment was completely warranted. Jones was simply showing his excitement and passion, but it served as a learning moment that even in celebration, players must control their emotions to some extent to avoid any friendly fire.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Has Been An Excellent Leader During The 2025 Season

When the news broke that Rodgers and the Steelers were pursuing a partnership for the 2025 season, Steelers fans were understandably nervous due to the ever-polarizing nature of Rodgers. However, he has come to Steel City as an excellent leader.

Despite winning four MVPs in his career, Rodgers didn’t come in trying to overshadow anyone. Instead, he has worked hard to earn the right to lead this team, and he has done well. His stats back up his play, and now he just needs the defense to carry its weight. If that happens, this team could make some serious noise.
