Packers' Jordan Love Reveals How Easy It Was To Read The Steelers’ Defense In Week 8

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered an embarrassing loss in Week 8 to the Green Bay Packers as Pittsburgh's defense was picked apart for the second consecutive week. The group was better against the run, but the defense still seemed hopeless, especially in the second half. Packers quarterback Jordan Love seemed as if he was just playing pitch and catch for most of the game as he had targets running wide open and he did not face much pressure from the Steelers' pass rush. It was fairly easy for the Packers' offense, which is something that has become a concerning trend for Pittsburgh's opponents.

A common theme when it comes to the Steelers' defense is former and current players coming out and saying that Pittsburgh is extremely predictable on that side of the ball. There is a certain level of stubbornness to it as it seems like the coaching staff refuses to change what the franchise does on the defensive side of the ball, even though it is seemingly easy to read and apparently easy to play against. Love went on the Up & Adams Show With Kay Adams, and he spoke about Pittsburgh's defense when asked about his 33-yard completion to Christian Watson.

"It's one of those plays at the line of scrimmage where we're trying to see what kind of coverage they're in," Love said. "I was thinking that might be Cover 1, and that's something we noticed throughout the week that they're post safeties, they do like to try and jump some of the underneath through routes and stuff like that. That post safety was playing pretty low and we had Christian over the top and tried to just give him a ball that he'd be able to come back to."

Love was able to tell before the snap that the Steelers were in Cover 1, which is essentially man across the board with one safety in the middle of the field. This type of coverage is prone to give up big plays, as it just takes one player beating the defender covering them for something big to happen. The minimal safety help over top also plays a role, which was evident on the play to Watson.

Love is in his third season as a starting quarterback, and this is his second time playing against the Steelers. He was able to dissect the defense throughout the night, which is something he confirmed by knowing the coverage ahead of the snap. This isn't anything crazy as most quarterbacks around the league with any experience are able to tell what they are going to get from a defense before the snap, but it is frustrating for Pittsburgh fans to hear as it is just another instance of the defense being predictable.

Former players have always said that Pittsburgh's defense is easy to dissect, and that remains true to this day. The coaching staff needs to find ways to disguise coverages, come up with creative blitzes, and try something new. The same old stuff is no longer working, and Pittsburgh is in trouble.

Steelers Have Another Experienced Quarterback Coming In To Acrisure Stadium

The Steelers will host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9, and that game is going to be a challenge for Pittsburgh. The Colts are considered the hottest team in the league as they currently hold the best record. Daniel Jones is an experienced player at quarterback for them who has been playing at an MVP-esque level, and he could easily dissect Pittsburgh's defense with the way it has been playing over the last two weeks.

He has the potential to have a huge game on Sunday, and the Steelers need to find a way to mitigate that to give the team any chance of winning.
