The Pittsburgh Steelers are considered one of the teams to watch as the NFL's trade deadline approaches as the organization will look to put some finishing touches on the roster. The Steelers look like they can be one of the playoff teams in the AFC, and possibly even win the AFC North, so General Manager Omar Khan will explore all avenues of improving the team while he can. Wide receiver has been the main topic of discussion, which has been the case for a couple of years now, and Pittsburgh has been inquiring around the league at the position.

One of the top options at wide receiver flew off the board on Tuesday as the Las Vegas Raiders decided to trade Jakobi Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pittsburgh had shown interest in Meyers according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, but the Steelers were not willing to match the Jaguars when it came to a price.

Jaguars coughed up a fourth and a sixth round pick, which is far too much for a wide receiver of Meyers' caliber who is essentially going to be a rental. His contract expires after the 2025 season, so there is a chance he only plays nine games for Jacksonville before moving on to his next stop. It was a good move by Pittsburgh not to meet the price of the Jaguars.

The Jaguars were far more desperate at wide receiver than the Steelers, and that showed by how much the franchise was willing to pay for a wide receiver on an expiring deal. Jacksonville is currently going to be without Travis Hunter for an indefinite period of time, and Brian Thomas Jr. is also dealing with an ankle injury. The franchise needed an upgrade at the position regardless, and it got exactly that.

The Steelers could still acquire a wide receiver before the deadline. Players like Calvin Ridley or Rashid Shaheed are strong options, however Shaheed is in the same situation as Meyers as he will be a free agent during the 2026 offseason. Ridley might be the most realistic target as he is already on a long-term deal, but it is a contract Pittsburgh could get out of after the 2025 season if the organization really wanted to.

It is worth noting that the price Jacksonville paid for Meyers does kind of set the market when it comes to trades for wide receivers at the deadline. The price tag for wide receivers might just be very expensive this time around, which may make the Steelers second guess making any sort of move.
